UEFA has reportedly asked the European Court of Justice to amend its press statement on the European Super League decision as some within the organization believe the “inaccurate” release was crafted to make the decision appear more exciting.

Last week the court dealt a blow to FIFA and UEFA, saying their rules for pre-approval of inter-club competitions such as the Super League were “contrary to EU law”.

The decision led league supporters such as Barcelona and Real Madrid to claim victory in the legal battle they launched after the collapse of the first version of the project in April 2021.

But according to TimeUEFA says the decision did not confirm the existence of the Super League. Her lawyers appealed to the European Court to change the decision, arguing that it was “contrary to the decision.”

The publication also reports that senior officials believe the statement was strengthened to attract more attention.

The letter, seen by The Times, calls on the EU Court of Justice to “at least faithfully reflect the factual content of the decision.”

“Whilst we understand that press releases are not binding on the court, they are the focus of media attention in high-profile cases, which inevitably affects UEFA’s perception and reputation in particular, given the extreme seriousness of the abuse allegations. dominance.” He adds.

“They also remain on the court website for a long period of time. Moreover, in a high-profile case such as this, they attract a lot of attention (which is their purpose) and influence how the case is perceived.

“Accordingly, we ask that you ensure that the press release is amended to accurately reflect the court’s decision.”
