Former Premier League football star Simon Vukcevic ‘is arrested after being caught at international border with gun and 126 bullets’
Former Premier League football star Simon Vukcevic has been arrested after he was allegedly caught at the international border with a pistol and 126 rounds of ammunition.
According to the Portuguese press, the former Blackburn Rovers player, who also played for Serbia and Montenegro, could spend 56 days behind bars.
The 37-year-old attacking midfielder was reportedly detained at the Gostun border crossing while attempting to leave Serbia and enter Montenegro. The Mirror reports this..
The Lisbon newspaper Correio da Manha writes that the Serbian prosecutor’s office accused Vukdevich of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
Portuguese news outlet The Daily Record reports that the investigation into the case is being led by the prosecutor’s office in the Serbian city of Uzice.

Vukcevic made his first Premier League appearance on 17 September 2011, signing a three-year contract with Rovers. He also spent part of his career in Portugal.
He began his professional career at the age of 17 when he joined the Belize-based team Partizan.
Vukcevic went on to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Sporting in the early 2000s before signing with clubs in England, Russia, Ukraine, Greece and Cyprus.
During the 2008 summer transfer window, he was reportedly at the center of a battle between Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers, but remained with Sporting in Portugal.
Since signing for Rovers in 2011, Vukcevic’s first goal came in a 3-2 win over Leyton Orient in the League Cup in September.
In total he played 21 games for Rovers, who were relegated at the end of his first season. After his contract expired in January 2013, he signed a contract with Ukrainian Premier League club Karpaty Lviv.
Vukcevic announced his retirement in March 2018.
