Aussie glamour girl Ebanie Bridges BEATEN via upset unanimous decision in world title fight: ‘This has been a disaster for her’

- Yoshida lands a controversial strike
Veteran Japanese boxer Miyo Yoshida dethroned Australian boxing superstar Abany Bridges in San Francisco with a unanimous decision victory on Sunday afternoon.
Yoshida, who entered the Bridges fight late, won the IBF bantamweight belt with a stunning performance on the undercard of the title fight between Devin Haney and Regis Prograis at Chase Center.
All three judges scored a strong underdog (99-91 x2, 97-93), securing the victory for the former two-time WBO heavyweight champion.
Bridges struggled to start the fight, with the Japanese fighter’s right hand finding its mark throughout the fight.
Punch statistics subsequently showed that Yoshida landed 122 powerful punches to the Blonde Bombers’ 66.
Miyo Yoshida defeated Ebany Bridges via unanimous decision on Sunday.
Yoshida took the fight in less than two weeks and is now the IBF champion.
Commentators were amazed at Yoshida’s one-sided performance, with one remarking:
“This was supposed to be Ebany Bridges’ exhibition fight in the United States,” he said.
“It was a disaster for her.”
There was some controversy in the fight, with Yoshida landing a late punch after the bell in the fifth round. However, this seems to have made little difference.
The shock defeat ended the former Sydney maths teacher’s 21-month reign at the top of the IBF bantamweight division.
Bridges was originally scheduled to take on compatriot Avril Mathie in what became known as the “Battle of the Tits” before Mathie was forced to withdraw from the competition due to injury.
Bridges told Daily Mail Australia it was very difficult to find someone who could help at short notice.
“Avril pulled out a couple of weeks ago and this is the fourth opponent we’ve faced,” Bridges said last week.
Yoshida landed cleaner punches and outpointed the Australian boxer.
The defeat ended Bridges’ 21-month reign at the top of the IBF bantamweight division.
“We had opponents who said yes and then got a contract and disappeared. This doesn’t change much. I’m still going to go out there and fight my fight.
Bridges successfully defended her title with a stoppage victory over Shannon O’Connell in December and gained a huge following online.
The Australian is hugely popular among fight fans thanks to her all-or-nothing mentality in the ring, risque sense of humor, intelligence and habit of wearing attractive outfits to weigh-ins.
