Cyndi Lauper’s rapper son Dex, 26, faces eviction from posh $7,200-a-month NYC block he ‘turned into a nightclub’, angering neighbors who say their building is now ‘unlivable’
Cyndi Lauper’s son is facing eviction from his luxury Manhattan apartment after neighbors complained about loud music, late-night screaming and the smell of marijuana.
Declyn ‘Dex’ Lauper-Thornton’s landlord has filed an eviction petition to have the 26-year-old removed from her $7,200-a-month apartment.
Lauper-Thornton has been accused of violating rental rules at the Financial District apartment building since he moved in last October.
According to archives, neighbors have to deal with ‘pounding music on a nightly basis’ and loud shouting, shouting, screaming’ coming from the apartment.
In February, a resident of the apartment told the landlord that she feared for her safety because of constant shouting and noise.

Lauper-Thornton has been accused of violating rental rules at the Financial District apartment building, seen here, since he moved in last October.
The resident, who was not named in the papers, complained that the loud noises from the flat have had a ‘severe and negative impact on her life’.
Others complained about the smell of marijuana from the apartment, loud shouting and sounds of fights.
Court papers say he walked into the building management office one night with a ‘marijuana blunt and looked visually intoxicated.’
The documents allege he then threatened workers over an email, saying: ‘If you don’t fix the email I’m going to come back with people and get everyone’s face smashed.
‘I’ll break your legs. I have friends and an uncle who wants to fuck you. Don’t play with me because I’m going to take someone with me and tear the whole place apart.’
A former neighbor told me that New York Post: ‘I’ve never had problems with any of the neighbors before.
‘Then a new tenant moved in, and immediately there was very loud music at the most bizarre times, such as 3 or 7. It felt like there was a nightclub right behind my wall.’
A source also said that a day after a tenant confronted Lauper-Thornton, the former neighbor found a bullet near her apartment and decided to move out.

A neighbor also told Posten: ‘I heard the disturbing music every other day. There were plenty of times when it was 2am, 3am or 4am
‘I had an important meeting one weekday, but I was woken up at 3am the night before because the music was blaring.
‘I could feel the bass. I put on a robe and went to confront the guy in a nice way and I had to knock on the door so loudly because he just couldn’t hear.
‘He tried to take the high road with me and said “Oh, is that how you talk to people?” I said, “Yeah, at 3 in the morning, I don’t want to be too nice about it.”
‘So we had this conversation for 30 seconds. I left and the music continued.’
In February, Lauper-Thornton appeared in court on weapons charges related to a shooting in Harlem.
According to court documents, he was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
Dex was arrested after a shooting in which a 24-year-old man was found shot in the leg near an apartment building.
He is the only son of music icon Lauper and her actor husband David Thornton, who was seen bailing her son out of jail with a lot of money.
At a later hearing in the case, he flashed a peace sign at paparazzi after appearing in court.

Wearing a black jacket, blue shirt, stripped tie and a red and gray scarf, Thornton posted his son’s $20,000 bond at a New York City Coroner’s Office.
He was previously arrested after being in possession of a stolen 2014 Mercedes Benz while at a July 14, 2022 memorial service for an aspiring rapper named Ethan Reyes, who had been fatally stabbed days before.
Dex had been arrested while sitting in the idling vehicle parked at the intersection of 140th Street and Broadway, the New York Post reported.
Prosecutors in the case said Dex told officers when questioned about the vehicle, ‘You probably know who I am.’
Dex pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct without jail time in connection with the incident.
As a condition of his plea agreement, Dex was ordered by the Manhattan Criminal Court to stay out of further trouble for a year; and perform a community service that spanned five days. He faces up to a year in custody if convicted, according to the newspaper.
After the court hearing in October 2022, Dex was seen smoking marijuana (which is legal in New York City) with friends as he boarded an SUV parked outside the courthouse.

In an Instagram Stories post that day, Dex posted a photo of a smoke-filled vehicle with the caption ‘Court.’
At the time, Dex, who previously worked with rapper G-Eazy, told the Post that he and his famous mother had collaborated on musical material.
“Me and my mom have a couple of songs that we recorded,” he told the newspaper at the timeadding that the end of the previous case was ‘definitely a blessing’ for him.
Lauper told last year Vanity Fair that Dex’s music tastes tended to be ‘more underground’, adding: ‘He’s on SoundCloud and he’s a great artist.’
In the chat, Lauper opened up about balancing parenthood with her career.
‘People said I was so career-driven, but when the baby came I looked at how I can support everything: make a record, tours – and my husband would say, ‘Go to Europe, I’ve got him”’ she said. ‘I took my son on trips a few times but he needed his own room.’
