Minnesota Vikings star Mekhi Blackmon donated to a GoFundMe campaign dedicated to the late Texas A&M Commerce wide receiver Keith Miller III.

The 22-year-old was found dead in his apartment near campus on Thursday evening. Although the cause of his shock death has not been revealed, TAMUC released a statement on Friday to confirm his death.

Shortly after the news broke, one came GoFundMe campaign was launched with the description: ‘All funds will go towards funeral costs, family support and directly to his young son. Your generosity can make a world of difference during this challenging time. Thank you for your kindness and compassion.’

133 people have donated to the cause at the time of writing, with Blackmon’s donation of $1,000 being the highest amount.

The campaign has raised over $12,000 towards the $15,000 goal.

Friends, family and former teammates flooded social media with posts mourning Miller’s death over the weekend.

In a statement from Lions coach Clint Dolezel, he described Miller as a father. Southern California receiver Brendan Rice promised he would take care of Miller’s son in his social media post.

“I love you Brotha,” the younger Rice wrote on Instagram. ‘On Everything I Love, your son will be taken care of.’

In another post with a photo of Miller and a young boy, Rice wrote: ‘Luke gone be straight I got him.’

Miller transferred to Texas A&M Commerce after two seasons at the University of Colorado. Despite not appearing in any games for the Buffaloes, the receiver left an imprint on his former teammates and coaches.

‘As coaches we are so focused on wins and losses that we sometimes forget to check on our former players!’ former CU player and assistant coach Darrin Chiaverini wrote on social media. ‘We lost a great young man today in Keith Miller!’

After his move to Texas, Miller played in 18 games and made 39 catches for 475 yards and four touchdowns.

After his death, Texas A&M Commerce offers expanded counseling to students.

“We are devastated by Keith’s unexpected passing,” Dolezel said in her statement. ‘Keith was a beloved father, son, teammate and student-athlete. We extend our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to his family, friends, teammates and all who loved him during this very difficult time.’

Director of Athletics Jim Curry also released a statement: ‘We are shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Keith Miller.

The A&M-Commerce community extends its condolences to Keith’s family and those who knew and loved him. Words are hard to come by at this moment, but we ask that you keep those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.’
