Aaron Rodgers defends ‘amazing young man’ Zach Wilson and slams report he was ‘reluctant to return’ to starting role for Jets: ‘He’s been through a lot of s***’
Aaron Rodgers has come to the defense of Zach Wilson amid reports that the quarterback is hesitant to return to the Jets’ starting lineup.
“I love the child. I spent a lot of time with him. I think he’s a terrific young man… and he’s young, in his early 20s,” Rogers said in an interview. The Pat McAfee Show.
“He’s been through a lot of crap over the last three years and he has every right to be upset and disappointed about it.”
Wilson replaced Rodgers after the future Hall of Famer tore his Achilles in Week 1, but was benched for the team’s Week 12 matchup with the Dolphins.
However, the Jets have since removed Tim Boyle, who started in Wilson’s place for the last two games, and could return Wilson to the starting lineup, although he was said to be “reluctant” to take the field again. Athletic.
Aaron Rodgers didn’t defend his teammate Zach Wilson on Tuesday’s Pat McAfee Show.
The New York Jets are reportedly considering bringing Wilson back to a starting role.
Rogers has now refuted that claim, saying the report was an attempt to “kill his character.”
“I’ll say it when you have the sources, yes, and that’s always interesting,” he said. “First of all, you can go down the rabbit hole of real sources, fictitious sources, why would anyone want to be a source?
“What do they get out of it? And so on and so forth, but when you use sources, intentionally or unintentionally, to try to destroy someone’s character, as happened with Zach in this report, I have a really hard time with that.”
“I mean, you’re essentially saying this guy quits the team, doesn’t want to play and gave the organization the middle finger,” he added.
Aaron Rodgers appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday and spoke out quite openly.
Rodgers also criticized unnamed sources who spoke to The Athletic and said the Jets need to “get to the bottom” of where the leak occurred.
“If this is journalism now, if you’re going to use sources… whoever that person thinks it’s okay, number one, to talk to somebody like that – I don’t understand what you get from that number one,” he said . said.
“But secondly, what is your incentive, what is your motivation to try to bury such a person? And this is an organizational problem, you know, we need to get to the bottom of where this is coming from and put a stop to it privately.
“Is this really what you want to do?” Do you want to use someone in the media to leak information to get them to put your name on a job, or if you’re a player, to get them to write about you? “I think it’s inherently chicken shit and I think it has no place in a winning organization.”
Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has struggled consistently since entering the league, although he has completed a career-high 59.2 percent of his passes this year.
The Jets are 4-6 with Wilson as the starter this season (and also beat the Bills in Week 1 after he replaced Rodgers) and enter Week 14 with a 4-8 record.
Zach Wilson could soon return to the Jets’ starting lineup after a brief stint on the bench.
However, Rodgers insists he can still return before the end of the season despite the Jets’ playoff hopes fading as the quarterback tries to break the typical schedule for recuperating an Achilles injury.
For now, however, Wilson could be back as the team’s starting quarterback, and Rodgers predicted he’ll pitch to the team tomorrow.
“We’re not going to spend a lot of time on this,” he said. “I’m guessing Zach will probably say something to the team tomorrow. I hope if that’s the case, it stays with the team.”
“We’ve all been part of a team or an organization before – there are some things that are esoteric – they’re meant for a specific group of people. There are some conversations that are only meant for certain people and should not leave the building.
