A man has been arrested after stabbing a 29-year-old woman in Aberfan this morning.

South Wales Police said they have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.

A statement from the force said: “Following reports that a 29-year-old woman had been stabbed in Moy Road, Aberfan, Merthyr, earlier this morning, officers arrested a 28-year-old man from Merthyr on suspicion of attempted murder. .

“He is currently in police custody.”

Parents queued to collect their children from Aberfan Primary School as the hunt continues for the man who stabbed a woman today.

Concerned parents were seen rushing to collect their children at the end of the school day after local schools went into lockdown for several hours “as a precaution”.

Nayfman “laid in wait” for a 29-year-old “heavily pregnant” woman before stabbing her with a knife “in a domestic row”

Witnesses said the attacker “waited” for the woman before she was stabbed multiple times in the back.

Veterinary nurse Katie Roberts, 31, was one of the first on the scene.

She told MailOnline: “I was at home when I heard screams and thought it was children fussing. But I looked out the window and saw a man with a large knife in his hand, standing over a woman on the road.

“He stabbed her in the back, and when me and the other neighbors ran outside, he ran away.”

Kathy said the woman was still conscious but was bleeding heavily due to multiple stab wounds.

She said: “She was very brave and worried about her baby – she is 37 weeks pregnant. It was shocking: another neighbor dialed 99 and the police quickly arrived. I just hope she’s okay.”

Aberfan residents have ‘grave concerns’ about armed police response, local MP says

Aberfan is a “close-knit community” that will feel “grave concern” after the stabbing of a 29-year-old woman, the MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney has said.

Labor MP Gerald Jones (pictured) told Sky News on Tuesday: “Aberfan is a very close-knit and friendly community.

“The community center and schools are very close, so the police are trying to keep people away from the area.

“The community center has closed its doors for now and the schools have also closed because they are in close proximity to Moy Road.

“As I said, the community is very close-knit, so there is certainly significant concern within the community.”

He added that police had assured him they were dealing with the incident “as quickly and efficiently as they can.”

First Minister Mark Drakeford says his ‘thoughts remain with the people of Aberfan’

Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford told the Senedd his thoughts are with those affected by today’s incident in Aberfan.

He said: “Can I repeat what the Leader of the Opposition says about the events taking place in Aberfan?” I was grateful for the information I received from Dawn Bowden, MS constituency member, about the events that continue to unfold.

“For now, our thoughts remain with the people who are passionate about them. We will undoubtedly learn more.”

Eyewitnesses described how the victim “ran away” from the attacker

Eyewitnesses are beginning to recount the horror they saw in Aberfan this morning.

A mother has said her daughter’s scream alerted neighbors to the stabbing of a “pregnant” 29-year-old woman in south Wales.

Lynn Terrett, from Merthyr Tydfil, said her daughter Kira Terrett was walking her dog near her home in Aberfan when she witnessed the incident.

She said her daughter looked around after she heard the sound of a woman running towards her.

“(The woman) fell,” she said. “My daughter screamed and people came out from everywhere.”

She said the man who stabbed the woman fled the scene.

“If she hadn’t screamed, people wouldn’t have come out,” she said.

She added that her daughter was “very shocked.”

Several schools are quarantined due to the ongoing search for the knife thief.

Several schools and nurseries in Aberfan have been placed under lockdown as the search for a woman’s attacker continues.

Special needs school Greenfield School, Trinity Child and Family Care Center and Inisone Primary School have initiated isolation procedures “as a precautionary measure”.

The local community center was also closed “until further notice.”

A manhunt has been launched for an alleged stabber today after a “pregnant” woman was stabbed in Aberfan.

Armed police swooped on Moy Road in the South Wales village shortly after 9am after the 29-year-old woman was reportedly found in a pool of blood on the pavement.

Several schools and kindergartens were blocked while police hunted for the suspect. Neighbors ran outside with pillows and blankets as emergency services arrived.
