The Air Force has disciplined 15 National Guard members after a “lack of oversight” allowed Jack Texeira to share hundreds of classified documents on the social networking site Discord.

Jack Texeira, an Airman First Class in the Massachusetts Air National Guard, was accused of leaking highly classified military documents from the 102nd Reconnaissance Wing at Otis Air National Guard Base.

The April disclosure was called “one of the largest leaks of US intelligence materials in history.” Texeira, who worked as an apprentice in cyber defense operations and was considered a low-ranking position, was charged with six counts of possessing and transmitting classified information.

An internal investigation found a “lack of oversight” and a “culture of complacency” in the massive leak of classified documents, the Washington Post reported.

The inspector general argued that his superiors failed to restrict his access to classified systems and facilities or alert appropriate authorities while he allegedly illegally disclosed government secrets.

He shared top-secret military secrets he illegally obtained from his intelligence unit with other Discord users, authorities said.

He allegedly did this by first printing classified documents he had access to and then sharing photos of files marked SECRET and TOP SECRET.

Punitive measures range from the removal of personnel from their positions, including command positions, to extrajudicial punishment under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

According to the Air Force report, it was revealed that the officers were “aware of his intelligence activities” and failed to stop him.

It also turned out that none of his managers were fully aware of Teixeira’s online activities.
