The highly anticipated Amy Winehouse biopic From black to black Official release dates have been given.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and starring British actress Marisa Abela as the late, eclectic singer-songwriter, the film will premiere in US cinemas on May 10, 2024, with fans in the UK able to get their hands on the first film. look at it four weeks earlier with an April 12, 2024 release date.

The upcoming biopic has been described as “a never-before-seen look at Amy Winehouse’s early rise to fame and the release of her groundbreaking studio album Back To Black.” Focusing Features.

Told from Winehouse’s point of view, the film takes an unabashed look at the woman emerging as a global pop star and the relationship that inspired one of the most legendary albums of all time.

Back To Black was not only her breakthrough album, but also her final release following her sudden and tragic death due to alcohol poisoning in July 2011.

Winehouse’s Back To Black album drew heavily on her tumultuous relationship with on-off boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil, from whom she split before its October 2006 release.

He then left the rising star to pursue his ex-girlfriend, but their brief separation eventually inspired her to create a series of songs that explore themes of guilt, heartbreak, infidelity, grief and trauma in relationships.

Catching the attention of a wide range of people, Back To Black saw its celebrity star soar with five hits: Rehab, You Know I’m No Good, Back To Black, Tears Dry On Their Own and Love Is A Losing Game. .

The on-again, off-again couple eventually got back together to marry in 2007, but Fielder-Civil went to prison the following year, followed by their divorce in 2009.

Speaking after her death, blamed on alcohol poisoning in 2011, Fielder-Civil said they had a wild four months that escalated into rampant drug use and admitted he regretted introducing his ex-wife to heroin, according to words Mirror.

Her success can be partially attributed to her very recognizable contralto vocals, a type of classical singing voice, as well as her eclectic mix of musical genres such as soul, R&B, jazz-reggae, which she mixed with more modern sounds.

Her second album made sales of around four million in the UK and sold over 16 million copies worldwide.

Winehouse also won five Grammy Awards for the album, which included Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Rehab, as well as Best Pop Vocal Album and Best New Artist.

In addition to starring Abela, the biopic’s cast also includes Jack O’Connell, who plays Winehouse’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, Eddie Marsan as her father Mitch Winehouse, Juliet Cowan as her mother Janice Winehouse-Collins, and Lesley Manville as her grandmother Cynthia Winehouse.

Before starring as Winehouse, 27-year-old Abela was best known to many fans for her role in the HBO and BBC Two drama series Industry (2020-present).

She first appeared at age 11 as Alice in the thriller Man in the Box (2008).

After a long break from performing to complete her education, she returned to star in Sky One’s political thriller Cobra, which led to her landing her recurring role as Yasmin Kara-Hanani in Industry.

Amy Winehouse is widely considered one of the greatest artists in recent history, having sold over 30 million records worldwide and today generating over 80 million streams per month.

The British singer-songwriter was just 27 years old when she died at her home in London, England on July 23, 2011.

After British police reopened the investigation into her death in December 2012, a second inquest confirmed that Winehouse died of an accidental alcohol overdose.

In an interview with the singer’s brother, Alex Winehouse expressed confidence that his sister’s eating disorder and associated physical weakness were the main cause of her death.

“She suffered very badly from bulimia. This is not a discovery, you understood everything just by looking at her.” rolling stone reported in 2013. “Eventually she would have died if she had done that, but what really killed her was the bulimia… I think it made her weaker and more susceptible. If she didn’t have an eating disorder, she would be physically stronger.”

Once again, Back to Black will premiere in UK cinemas on April 12, 2024, and in the US a month later on May 10, 2024.
