Bayern Munich have reportedly approached former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane to replace Thomas Tuchel as their next boss.

The Bavarian giants were forced to watch jubilant celebrations from rivals Bayer Leverkusen as they pipped them to the Bundesliga title after a so far unbeaten season that has seen them go 16 points ahead of them in the table.

The club already announced in February that Tuchel was set to leave in the summer after an underwhelming season that saw the team go out in the German Cup to amateur side Saarbrücken before watching Leverkusen run away with the league.

With the entire season over – barring a glimmer of hope in the Champions League – preparations are now well under way in the hunt for a new manager, with three-time Champions League winner Zidane said to be a top target according to German broadcaster Picture.

The report claims the club have approached him with a proposal to take over from the 2024-25 season, with legendary former player Franck Ribery possibly coming in as his assistant manager.

The language barrier could cause a problem for Zidane taking charge as the Frenchman is not fluent in German or English.

It goes on to say that Zidane – who has not managed since he left Real Madrid in May 2021 almost three years ago – has asked some close contacts who know the club well what it is like to work at the club.

However, the report also claims that Zidane is holding out for the France job, which is currently held by Didier Deschamps and will “likely” be held until the end of the 2026 World Cup at least.

Zidane – considered one of the greatest players of all time – won LaLiga twice as Real Madrid boss, as well as two Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Super Cups, two Club World Cups in addition to his three Champions League titles.

However, Bayern have some alternatives in mind should they fail to sign Zidane.

The best choice for club boss Max Eberl is Julian Nagelsmann – the man they sacked in March after less than two seasons, with the 36-year-old now in the German national team preparing for Euro 2024 on home soil.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is also another major target for the 33-time Bundesliga champions.

De Zerbi has won a number of admirers at Brighton after leading them to sixth last season – although this campaign has been tougher due to injuries and the loss of star names such as Alex MacAllister and Moises Caicedo to Liverpool and Chelsea.

The Seagulls are currently 10th in the Premier League after 11 wins, 11 draws and 10 defeats.
