Democratic strategist Paul Begala joked on CNN Friday morning that he ‘slept like a baby’ after President Joe Biden’s classified documents debacle.

Begala, who served as a top adviser to President Bill Clinton, revealed, “I was waking up every two hours and wetting the bed.”

Biden’s re-election prospects were rattled Thursday with the release of special counsel Robert Hur’s report on classified documents, which referred to the president’s ‘diminished abilities’ and said a jury would find him ‘a likable, well-meaning, older man with a bad memory’.

‘This is terrible for the Democrats. And anyone with a working brain knows that,’ Begala said.

Begala noted that Biden “can’t turn 45 again,” but he can go on the offensive.

Democratic strategist Paul Begala joked on CNN Friday morning that he “slept like a baby” after President Joe Biden’s classified documents debacle.

“I woke up every two hours and wet the bed,” veteran Democratic strategist Paul Begala (bottom right) said during a CNN interview Friday morning, commenting on special counsel Robert Hur’s report on classified documents.

“Instead of calling a press conference and saying, ‘I’m really sharp,’ you attack the other guy,” the longtime Democratic fixer advised. “So everything with Biden is not, ‘I’m great,’ but ‘those other guys are really harmful, dangerous, a threat.’

The president responded to Hur’s report Thursday night with a hastily organized news conference in which he angrily pushed back at the claims — particularly that he didn’t remember when son Beau Biden died.

But during the Q&A he also referred to Egypt’s president being from ‘Mexico’, which provided more fodder for the 81-year-old to lose a step.

“I think Biden made it worse, no question about it,” Begala said at one point during the interview, though he also clarified that the press conference wasn’t entirely wrong.

‘Well, no, I want to see more Joe Biden, and the gaffer is built in, but instead of just saying, “I’m fine,” he just simply – he has to be on the attack 24/7 for the next 269 days.’

Begala also saw a missed opportunity by not attacking Hur more directly.

“This Republican attorney was a Trump appointee to be the U.S. attorney for Maryland,” Begala said.

He also pointed out that Hur was a proxy for a “right-leaning judge” as well as conservative Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, whose appointment Biden voted against as US senator.

“This guy has donated to Republicans, he’s partisan, and the only job he had was to indict or not to indict,” Begala said.

Instead, Begala complained, ‘the only thing he didn’t add was a legal disclaimer that this is a political ad in support of Donald Trump. It was a total cheapshot.’

‘What the hell was this guy doing editing way out of his league?’ Begala mused. “And choose the most damaging political attack he could make on Joe Biden.”

“I think it stinks,” the longtime Democratic strategist added.
