Archie is based on Dian’s 2011 memoir, Dear Cary: My Life with Cary Grant. Both she and daughter Jennifer also served as executive producers on the miniseries.

The premise follows: “The life of Hollywood’s greatest leading man, Archibald Alexander Leach, aka Cary Grant,” according to the official release. IMDB summary.

The show will not only chronicle Grant’s entire career in Hollywood, but also his difficult upbringing as a child.

Four actors have been cast over the decades to play Grant, including Jason Isaacs. Other stars attached to the project include Laura Aickman, who plays Diane, as well as Harriet Walter and Cara Tointon.

During a recent interview on New York LiveCannon spoke about the series and her previous relationship with the Hollywood icon.

Carey had four marriages in total, but only welcomed a child with Diane, which she explained: “I think it was because he trusted me because he felt safe.”

She also spoke about Isaacs’ performance as Grant and the decision to ultimately cast him in the role.

“Sometimes he doesn’t look much like Carey physically, but he gets Carey. He got it out with his teeth and nails. He really understood this man.”

As the Harry Potter alum prepared for the role, Diane explained that both she and the actor would sit and have a “great conversation” about Carey, whose real name is Archibald Leach.

During a conversation CBS Sunday morning in an article published earlier this month, Jason stated: “I’m not Cary Grant. But he wasn’t Cary Grant, that’s the thing.

“He came up with Cary Grant,” and added that it was “a character that would save him from himself, build a career and try to train his demons.”

Dayan, who also participated in the interview, was later asked: “Cary Grant played Cary Grant at home with you?” Has that façade ever let him down?

She replied, “Oh, of course, yes, he did, of course.” Real people have emotions. He had a very difficult childhood. He was abandoned, felt abandoned, unloved, unnecessary, unnecessary, deprived…”

“And, of course, who we came to know as Carey was this great, great, leading man—a personality who never stopped. He was so graceful! And what a great body. And he never played sports, which really annoyed me!”

Cannon’s memoir made the New York Times bestseller list and focuses on their relationship as well as details of Grant’s own upbringing.

During the late actor’s childhood, young Archie was abandoned by his father, who told Carey that his mother had passed away when he was just 10 years old.

However, 20 years later, he discovered that his mother had been admitted to a mental hospital.

During Diane’s marriage to Grant, the actress also detailed his controlling behavior and on another occasion recalled how he forced her to take LSD.
