But his daughter denied rumors that her father is gay.

She said Fox News Digital on Sunday: “I guess (the misconception about my father) the question that comes to mind is, ‘Was he straight?’ Was he gay?

“When I was writing the book, I received hate mail saying, ‘Why don’t you stand up for the fact that your father was homosexual?’

“But the truth is that I never saw anything to indicate that.”

“If he was gay, I would absolutely stand for it. He had gay friends, and there was absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

“But I had to tell the truth: I saw a very heterosexual man who followed women, was married to women, got me,”

— Did he have novels at the beginning of his life? Maybe. I don’t know. I wasn’t there to see it. So I think it may not be a common misconception, but it’s definitely a rumor.”

Back in 2011, she revealed the horrific details of their tumultuous relationship in an explosive tell-all memoir, which is now being turned into a brand new ITV show premiering later this month.

Although Diane and Carey eventually separated in 1968 after just three years of marriage, there was one event in their relationship that ultimately changed Carey forever – the birth of their daughter Jennifer.

They had a girl in 1966, and becoming a father inspired Carey to start a new life. He decided to give up his acting career to focus entirely on raising her, leaving behind his wild habits and instead becoming a devoted family man.

This relationship also changed Diane’s life for the better: meeting one of the world’s biggest actors catapulted her into the spotlight and helped launch the young starlet’s major career.

She began dating Carey as an unknown actress who was just starting out, but by the time they parted ways, she had become one of the most sought-after faces in Hollywood.

After their split, she starred in a slew of films and TV shows, received several Oscar nominations, dabbled in producing, directing and screenwriting, and released her best-selling book about her rollercoaster love story between her and Carey, which will now be shown on TV.
