Chelsea fans have said Jan Maatsen’s career at the club is “over” following the defender’s recent actions on social media.
The Blues are still recovering from a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday night, with Scott McTominay’s brace securing victory for the hosts.
Chelsea looked like they might be back in the game when Cole Palmer equalized in the first half, but it was not to be for the Blues.
Most Manchester United players took to social media to enjoy the victory, including midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
The Moroccan international thanked fans with an Instagram post but would be surprised to see one of Chelsea’s traveling players in his comments section.
Chelsea fans have said Jan Maatsen’s career at the club is “over” following the defender’s recent actions on social media.
Maatsen left a now-deleted comment on Sofyan Amrabat’s Instagram post despite his team, Chelsea, being defeated by Amrabat’s Manchester United.

Amrabat’s post read: “Great spirit and great performance!” Thanks for the amazing support.”
Surprisingly, Chelsea’s Maatsen first commented “fire emoji” and “welcome emoji” in response to Amrabat’s post and then quickly deleted it.
This has led to a number of Chelsea fans criticizing the former Burnley loanee and saying his days at the club are numbered.
One account wrote: “You could say Jan Maatsen’s Chelsea career is over.”
“Ian Maatsen comments on Sofyan Amrabat’s report on United’s win yesterday. Absolute joke,” another user said.
“Of course this is a mistake by Jan Maatsen or his social media team as I hope players will read the room in situations like this and stay away from things like this,” one user wrote.
Fans were quick to condemn Maatsen’s decision and declare that his career was “over”.
Maatsen did not play a single minute of the match, despite the fact that it seemed that he was about to be introduced into the game by coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Moments before United regained their second-half lead, the cameras rolled to show Maatsen stripping and preparing to take the pitch.
However, after McTominay headed in from close range in the 69th minute, Pochettino decided to send the defender back to the bench.
Maatsen will be hoping he gets a chance to shine when Chelsea travel to Everton on Sunday afternoon.
