Could it BE anymore California? The most expensive avocado toast in the Golden State will set you back $38…. but is it worth it?

The California restaurant wowed with its $38 price tag for avocado and toast.

The Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel offers an expensive dish on sourdough bread with smoked salmon and home-grown tomatoes.

And yet Karen Palmer editor of the culinary magazine SFGate in Los Angeles, claim that guests don’t just pay for a delicious toast – they get a luxurious dining experience.

“The $38 avocado toast at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel is worth it,” Palmer said.

“You’re not just paying for avocado toast. No, you pay to drive up the palm tree-lined driveway to your home like you’re in a movie. You spend money to walk down a plush red carpet at the entrance to a luxurious lobby.”

“And you’re absolutely expected to fork out the cash for the opportunity to dine in one of the most iconic celebrity enclaves in one of L.A.’s poshest zip codes,” she said.

“In other words, as weird as it may seem, you simply can’t find a more L.A. dish in a more L.A. place than avocado toast at the Polo Lounge.”

Celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Bad Bunny, Kim Kardashian, Nick Jonas and Saweetie were spotted at the hotel and dining at The Polo Lounge.

On The Polo Lounge’s breakfast menu, a bowl of cereal with your choice of banana and milk costs $20, buttermilk pancakes or Belgian waffles cost $30, eggs Benedict costs $39, and the most expensive breakfast option is steak and eggs for $49.

Palmer said: “I fully understand that the Beverly Hills Hotel is a luxury resort, so of course everything is expensive. But if you’re going to spend a crazy amount of money on an L.A. staple that can be found at just about any breakfast restaurant, it might as well be here—and that’s doubly true for tourists and visitors who want to experience just the slightest bit of the glow. glory of Southern California.”

The restaurant has a dress code and guests are advised to “refrain from wearing casual hats, ripped jeans, crop tops, nightwear, swimwear and men’s sleeveless shirts.”

Polo Lounge describes the food as “American cuisine with an Italian twist and specials worthy of daily perusal.”

Opened in 1941, the Beverly Hills Hotel became an iconic establishment, nicknamed the “Pink Palace” and has played host to Hollywood royalty ever since.

During the golden age of Hollywood, it instantly became a celebrity hangout, with some of its most famous guests including Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Howard Hughes, John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe.

The hotel’s rooms are inspired by its famous guests, including Bungalow 22A, which was inspired by Frank Sinatra’s Palm Springs home.

Outdoor dining on Polo’s patio is surrounded by lush palm trees and flowers, and the dining area features iconic booth seating.

Other on-site dining options include Cabana Café, Fountain Coffee Shop and Nineteen12 Bar.

Palmer said while the location adds to the dining experience, the food is also good.

“First, a piece of sourdough bread is toasted and spread with a generous helping of avocado puree. One half is then topped with more fanned out slices of avocado (the toast uses a whole avocado, according to Polo Lounge culinary director Ashley James), she said.

“The other half, meanwhile, is topped with slices of sweet, juicy heirloom tomatoes and paper-thin cucumber strips, plus a hefty 4-ounce stack of Santa Barbara Smokehouse Smoked Salmon. Served with a light baby kale salad with tomatoes, Persian cucumber and watermelon radishes. Overall, this dish can easily feed two people.”

Palmer said: “If you’re looking for a ‘worth it’ verdict on the toast itself, then I’m sorry to disappoint. The truth is that this isn’t necessarily the best avocado toast I’ve ever eaten, and if I wanted to be picky, it could have used more seasoning. But it’s like expecting top-notch food at a sporting event or the best croissant of your life at the top of the Eiffel Tower.”

“In Los Angeles, enjoying a sumptuous afternoon lunch in a sunny garden surrounded by possible celebrities from across the entertainment kaleidoscope is something of a rite of passage. And for all the eye candy packed into the $38 plate of avocado toast, I’d say it was worth every penny.”
