Days Of Our Lives sees THREE old faces from the 1980s RETURN – as two new stars are added and an actor replaced in cast reshuffle

Days Of Our Lives will see three old faces from the 1980s return to the show, amid a series of dramatic cast changes.

Two new stars have been added to the long-running soap opera in currently undisclosed roles.

Meanwhile, an actor has decided to leave the show and pursue college as a full-time student, requiring his role to be recast.

But the three 80s stalwarts returning to Salem are sure to please the devoted fan base that Days Of Our Lives has acquired over the decades.

All three of them were in the soap opera for years – and one of them even performed a hit song that became inextricably linked with the series.

Gloria Loring, who portrayed lounge singer Liz Chandler from 1980 to 1986, is returning to Days Of Our Lives in the near future.

During her original run on the show, she and Carl Anderson sang a duet called Friends And Lovers on the air – and the track became a runaway hit single.

As the show progressed, the song became the theme for Charles Shaughnessy and Patsy Pease’s love interest characters Shane Donovan and Kimberly Brady.

Gloria, Alan Thicke’s ex-wife and mother of Robin Thicke, is returning to Days Of Our Lives for the first time in 38 years.

Deidre Hall, who has been on Days Of Our Lives on-and-off since 1976, broke the news earlier this month on the YouTube series The laughing room.

Another returning player from the 1980s is Melissa Reeves, who will return to the role of Jennifer Horton, which she has played on and off for nearly four decades.

Her first run in the series lasted a decade from 1985 to 1995, and she has repeatedly reprized the role since, most recently as a guest from 2021 to 2022.

Now, Melissa returns for a Thanksgiving episode of the series that will serve as a memorial to her late co-star Bill Hayes.

Bill, who played the recurring character of Doug Williams from 1970 onwards, died in January aged 98 just months after his last appearance on the show.

Melissa confirmed TV Insider last week that she would return to the role of Jennifer Horton to honor Bill in November.

‘I heard about Bill, which was just devastating for all of us. I was like, “I wonder if they’re going to do tribute shows,” she explained.

Matthew Ashford, who plays Jennifer’s ex Jack Devereaux, asked her: “Would you ever think about going back?” And I said, “Matt, I think about Days all the time.”

She noted that the show was ‘where I grew up and spent my life, from 18 to now. So it always has a place in my heart, and it always will for me and for my family.’

The third face to appear in Salem will be Stephen Schnetzer, who appeared from 1978 to 1980 as bad boy Steve Olson.

Stephen confirmed his return The laughing room last month, but gave no details other than that he would be in ‘a few episodes’.

He did not specify if these episodes would involve the Bill Hayes memorial since their characters were brothers-in-law.

In the midst of the recent role distribution on Days Of Our Lives, two completely new actors are being integrated into the series’ world.

Last week, the soap opera’s official Instagram page announced the casting of Cherie Jimenez and Al Calderon, teasing: ‘Hmmmm, who could they be?!?!’

Al was pictured in a crop top and Cherie in a clingy crimson cocktail dress as the pair clung to each other and smiled for their Days Of Our Lives advert.

Meanwhile, the character of Tate Black, previously played by Jamie Martin Mann, will now be portrayed by Leo Howard on April 5.

Jamie gave up the role to devote himself to completing his college education at the University of Michigan.

He came to the conclusion that “traveling back and forth would have been a significant obstacle to (achieving a) musical theater education,” he explained.

“I also don’t think it would have been fair to the show and to my co-stars not to dedicate the time required to (the job),” he added to Soap Opera Digest.
