Derek Hough gives fans update on his wife Hayley’s condition after she underwent emergency surgery: ‘She is now on the long road of recovery’
Derek Hough gave his fans an update on his wife Hayley Erbert’s health in a message posted to his Instagram account on Friday.
The wife of the 38-year-old professional dancer underwent emergency surgery Thursday night after she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma following a performance in Washington, D.C., as part of their Symphony Of Dance tour.
A cranial hematoma is defined as a collection of blood in the brain that usually occurs after a blood vessel ruptures.
Hough began his message by saying Erbert, 29, responded well to her treatment.
“Hayley has always inspired me with her will, strength and resilience, and no more than in the last 48 hours. She is now on a long road to recovery,” he wrote.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge then spoke of his gratitude for all the well wishes sent by his fans.
“Words cannot express how grateful and appreciative we are for the support and love you have shown us. The kindness we have been shown during this incredibly incomprehensible, life-changing time is immeasurable,” he wrote.
He concluded: “The offers of help that have been received have been very humbling and appreciated. “We hope that as a family we can give back in some way.”
Hough previously updated Hailey’s health on his Instagram account Thursday night.
He wrote that after their performance, his wife “became disoriented and was taken to the hospital.” She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a ruptured blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy.”
A craniectomy is defined as a procedure in which part of the skull is removed to reduce swelling of the brain.
Hough then added that his wife was in stable condition at the time.
The TV presenter concluded his message by expressing gratitude for the efforts of his wife’s medical team.

Hough made his first announcement about Hailey’s health on his Instagram account Thursday evening.
Hough then added that his wife was in “stable condition” at the time.
“I want to thank the first responders and medical staff who cared for her and continue to care for her. I ask for your prayers and positivity during this time.”
Hough’s sister, Julianne, shared a message on her Instagram Story and asked her fans to “pray and send all your love, healing and light” to her daughter-in-law.
The professional dancer and Erbert first met in 2014 but only dated for two years.
The couple made their relationship official on Instagram in 2017, and they tied the knot in August of this year.
