Did Spain’s former King spread gossip about Queen Letizia’s ‘affair’ with her brother-in-law in cold act of revenge against his son? Spanish media accuse Juan Carlos’ allies of ‘whipping up campaign’ after Felipe VI ‘froze exiled monarch out amid scandal’

The former king of Spain has been accused of “stirring up” rumors about an alleged affair between Queen Letizia and her former son-in-law.

The Spanish royal family has been rocked by shocking claims from businessman Jaime Del Burgo, who sensationally claimed he had a relationship with 51-year-old Letizia before and after her wedding to King Felipe.

Del Burgo married Letizia’s sister, Thelma Ortiz, from whom he is now separated. The Spanish court has repeatedly refused to comment on the charges.

In a new twist, a seasoned Spanish journalist has accused supporters of the former king, who has been largely expelled from the royal family, of fomenting a “campaign” against his son Felipe.

Referring to the accusations, popular radio host Federico Jiménez Losantos said: “This is the ‘nth’ campaign organized against Felipe VI,” and then added: “It is being fueled by the circles of Juan Carlos.”

Juan Carlos reigned as King of Spain from 1975 to 2014, when he abdicated the throne in favor of his son.

The official reason given was his age, but a series of controversies ensued and there were suggestions that he was pressured to relinquish the throne to protect the institution.

Corruption scandals in which he became embroiled after he was handed over to King Philip VI, whose wife Letizia is a former journalist, damaged his reputation.

He now lives in Abu Dhabi and Spanish media quote sources close to the former monarch as saying he is upset at being ousted by his family.

Now the latest rumors have plunged the Spanish monarchy into yet another scandal.

Del Burgo, 53, who currently lives in the UK, recently contributed to a tell-all book about the 51-year-old Spanish royal family, Letizia y Yo (Letizia and Me).

In it, he claims that he and Letizia were dating when she met Felipe, and that they were still romantically involved after her wedding to the King of Spain in 2004.

Following the bombshell, the entrepreneur shared a selfie the Queen took in front of the mirror during one of her pregnancies as “proof” of their relationship.

In the selfie, the royal can be seen wearing a black pashmina, which Jaime claims belonged to him, and he also typed a message on his social media post allegedly sent to him by the Spanish queen.

Jaime Del Burgo and his ex-wife Thelma Ortiz were seen in 2012 before their wedding. The couple separated in 2014.

Businessman Jaime Del Burgo shared this unseen selfie of Queen Letizia with his X followers. He claimed the royal wore a pashmina and said she “took care of it.”

It said: “Love. I wear your pashmina. It’s like feeling you next to me. It takes care of me. It protects me. I’m counting down the hours until we meet again. Love you. Get out of here. Your,’

Spanish media reported other messages he allegedly posted on X, which the entrepreneur is believed to have deleted soon after they were published, and pointed to their secret affair after Letizia married Felipe.

By sharing the selfie, other X users questioned the validity of Jaime’s claims as there is no evidence that Letizia sent him the photo or the accompanying message.

Father-of-two Del Burgo divorced sister Letizia by mutual consent in 2016, four years after they married and two years after they separated.
