Bukayo Saka was mocked by fans for limping again during a big game after dropping a ‘stinker’ during Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.

The England winger played the full 90 minutes of Arsenal’s agonizing defeat at the Emirates that dealt a blow to their title chances, with Manchester City taking the initiative after Liverpool also lost at home to Crystal Palace.

The Gunners missed the chance to go top of the table as Unai Emery’s men struck late on to secure a shock win – with Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins scoring in the final ten minutes of the game.

Saka has had a sensational season for the Gunners, scoring 18 goals in a season that has seen them go all the way in the Premier League, but rival supporters couldn’t help but poke fun at him after watching him disappear against Villa – in what was a decisive game.

Fans have noticed Saka sometimes limping on the pitch when Arsenal are losing this season – and have seen him floundering around the pitch in stoppage time as Mikel Arteta’s men were consigned to their fifth defeat of the season.

Another wrote: ‘Saka dives and limps off the pitch, the water is wet.’

‘Bukayo Saka limps off for a stinker it’s inevitable’ read one tweet, while another said: ‘Bukayo Saka limps off after another 0 goal performance in a big game.’

Another said: ‘Every great player has their signature move. Unfortunately, Saka is not big and his limp.’

Despite his low-key performance, Saka was not the main target of Arsenal fans’ fury as Oleksandr Zinchenko came in for heavy criticism.

Supporters said they had “moved beyond” the Ukrainian left-back, while others claimed his performance was a “tough watch”.

Another said: ‘If he ever starts a game for Arsenal again with a full team… It’s ineptitude of the highest order. Gives the ball away. Gives us nothing with the ball. Has defended horribly all season.’

Arsenal are second after the shock result, just two points off leaders City with six games remaining, but have some tough games ahead of Chelsea, Tottenham and Man United.

Arteta, speaking after the game, challenged his players to bounce back immediately and right the wrongs of their display against Villa by overlooking Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

‘We have the best opportunity to react against Bayern Munich on Wednesday. The team must show it. If you want to win, you have to overcome these situations,’ said Arteta, who said captain Martin Odegaard was substituted with a ‘leg injury’.

‘With the games we had, this was going to happen. It is now about how we react. This is in our control.

‘We knew this moment could come, it’s time to react and believe. We have to stand up, make yourself count with leadership and character – we have no other options. Now is a big test for us.

‘If a result (makes us lose our faith) then we are not strong enough. We (Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City) all have to play every third day, it’s crazy.

‘We just have to prepare, go to Munich with great belief – it’s a beautiful opportunity to go to the Champions League semi-finals, so it couldn’t come at a better time.’
