Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher agree on EIGHT players in their Premier League teams of the season so far… as Liverpool legend is slammed for leaving out Erling Haaland and Rodri

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have named their top Premier League teams of the season so far, with the Sky Sports duo agreeing on eight choices.

But there were some contentious calls and plenty of arguing between the pair as Neville and Jones criticized Carragher for leaving out Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland and their midfielder Rodri.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool legend hit back at the former Manchester United defender for leaving out Chelsea star Cole Palmer and Bernardo Silva in his selection.

Despite this, they each picked the same eight players, with both choosing a back four. Trent Alexander-ArnoldWilliam Saliba, Virgil van Dijk and Destiny Udogs come to their defense.

They also both selected Declan Rice in midfield, while the pair also selected Mohamed Salah, Jarrod Bowen and Son Heung-min as attacking players.

But there were some discrepancies in their line-up: Neville decided to add an extra striker, Haaland, and play with four strikers, leaving only Rice and Rodri in midfield.

Carragher criticized the former Manchester United defender’s team selection on Sky Sports, saying it would be “the narrowest team I’ve ever seen in my life” before adding: “There’s absolutely no width here.”

Meanwhile, Neville responded, “I think my team will beat your team, Jamie.”

“We would steam this batch,” he added.

Neville also decided not to take any Manchester United or Chelsea players into his team, saying: “I couldn’t pick anyone from Manchester United or Chelsea just because of how bad they are.”

But Carragher, who selected a midfield trio of Palmer, Silva and Rice, criticized him for leaving out the Chelsea and Manchester City star.

Carragher said: “I can’t believe you didn’t pick Bernardo Silva, I just think he’s sensational every season.” And Cole Palmer, you said you couldn’t pick a certain player because the team didn’t do very well, but to me that elevates Cole Palmer.

“His performances this season have made him Chelsea’s best player by a long shot, yes, it’s not that difficult. But I think Palmer was one of the players of the season.”

Despite this, Neville responded to Carragher for not taking Rodri into his team.

“Rodri is the best midfielder in the world in his position.” – said Neville. “They have already won two trophies and are about two points behind the league leaders, so three points. I can’t believe you didn’t pick Rodri in this midfielder.

“I love Bernardo Silva and I think Cole Palmer is a great talent. I couldn’t pick anyone for Chelsea or United, I just wrote them off. But for Silva I couldn’t get him ahead of any of my four attacking players; For me, Haaland is the best striker in the world along with Harry Kane, he is the top scorer in the league.”

In goal, Carragher picked out Vicario and Neville picked out Alisson. Although the former Liverpool defender admitted Alisson was one of the best in the world in his position, he justified his decision to select Vicario by saying: “For a new goalkeeper to come into the Premier League and perform as well as him, that’s why he Here.

The pair also agreed that Unai Emery is their manager of the season for now.

Reflecting on their joint selection, Neville praised Rice for his start to life at the Emirates and added that he felt there had not been many standout midfielders this season.

Neville: “I think Declan Rice has had a good start at Arsenal, perhaps results have spoiled him a bit over the last few weeks. Overall he was a very good signing. He is a big player for many years to come.

“Midfield was a challenge and I think midfield was the area where I felt the most difficulty, in the sense that no one was outstanding in midfield.” Rice is the best choice.”

Picking Jarrod Bowen as his first choice, he added: “Bowen had to be in my team because of how well he plays, the goals he scores and the impact he has had and I always think when you do that for the team, who is not at the top and does not create as many chances, he is more outstanding.

“What I didn’t like was that he was my only center forward. In the end, due to my lack of options in midfield, I chose an additional striker along with Bowen.”
