I’m a nail artist and I create jewelled manicures for my male customers – but some people say they’re ‘not masculine’
An esthetician is divided online after he shared a unique manicure trend – bejeweled nails for men.
Anushka Scarlett Anastasia, co-founder of Nuka Nails in West London, took on Instagram debuts the Chained Windows manicure for men, a type of nail art in which a silver jewelry chain is placed around a well-manicured nail.
Using a male model to show off the eye-catching creation, Anushka said she is “obsessed” with the look and urged more men to join the trend as it gives off “serious masculine (male) energy.”
Despite her claims, many were quick to criticize her look, with some women saying they were hesitant to date a man wearing the style, while others called her a “genius”.
Commenting on the video, Anushka said, “I honestly think this is probably the most high-end men’s manicure I’ve ever had.”
A manicurist on Instagram is divided after she shared a unique manicure trend she created for her male client (pictured: an unnamed man posing with his fresh “men’s window chain manicure”)
“Men’s chain window manicure” is a type of nail art in which a silver jewelry chain is formed around a well-manicured nail.
“So initially I was inspired by the grill, the simplicity of the window.
“As soon as I got my hands on this massive silver chain from Pup Up jewelry, I knew what I had to do.
“I present to you the Chained Windows manicure for men.”
The video describes step by step the process of creating a manicure from start to finish.
It all started with a photo of a manicured and trimmed nail covered in a thick coat of shiny, “super clean” clear polish.
She then applied what looked like a thick tube of clear nail glue around the edges of the nail bed.
Once set and dry, she attached a series of thin silver chain jewelry around the outline of the nail bed, taking her time to make sure they were attached to all four corners of the model’s nail.
Using a sharp tool, the influential man cut off the remaining unused portion of the silver chain.
The nail artist asked her fans to rate her look before imploring them to respond with “respect.”
Anushka Scarlett Anastasia (pictured) is the co-founder of Nuka Nails in West London and is calling on society to “change the narrative” when it comes to men’s nail art.
Describing her method in more detail, she continued: “Two dramatic metallic nails over a super sheer clear base mixed with a matte and glossy finish.
“Honestly, I’m obsessed. I’m all for guys getting their nails done.”
The content creator then questioned the so-called rigidity of social norms and urged both men and women to get such manicures more often.
“I’ve been saying for years that nail art isn’t just for women,” she continued. “Why does it have to be like this?”
“And honestly, I feel like this design might change some people’s minds. It’s so different from the classic, perhaps more feminine nail art we all know.
“Personally, I think there’s a serious energy to it. To me it’s like jewelry, but for nails.
“It’s the same thing with guys putting on rings, necklaces, piercings – what’s the big deal?
“We’re just not used to guys getting their nails done yet?” “I feel like we need to change that narrative and normalize it because that’s the view.”
She concluded by asking her fans to appreciate the look before imploring them to respond “respectfully.”
Many were quick to criticize her look, with some women saying they were hesitant to date a man in this style, while others called her a “genius”.
As you’d expect, the video has since gone viral, racking up a whopping 3.6 million views and over 1,800 comments.
Unfortunately, some viewers ignored her request to remain polite and instead left some negative comments.
One person said: “Please stop encouraging men to be more feminine.” You are all killing us and don’t even know it.”
Calling the whole idea “repulsive” and explaining why, another wrote: “I love this idea, it’s very cute, but I can’t find it ok, rather it puts a man off painting or decorating his nails.” But to each his own. I just think it looks strange for a normal heterosexual.
“Show me his nails, ask: “Do you like my new design?” Just like animals, everyone has their differences and doesn’t try to be like each other. So why should we all share the same thing now? For example, can certain things be for us girls/women or will we all end up being the same?’
In line with this sentiment, someone else said, “I don’t see anything masculine about it. Men shouldn’t do any of these things. All you need is clean hands and a little clear polish. All this is not necessary because men use their hands for work and not for display.”
Meanwhile, one woman “loved it”: “Very unisex. I don’t care if guys paint their nails, it’s all self-expression. Go crazy!!!’
“You are another level of genius,” another commented.
