EU chief condemns Iran’s ‘unprecedented escalation’

European Union foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell condemned Iran’s attack on Israel on Saturday as an ‘unprecedented escalation’.

“The EU strongly condemns the unacceptable Iranian attack against Israel,” he wrote on the platform X.

‘This is an unprecedented escalation and a serious threat to regional security.’

Jordan denies it is in a state of emergency

A spokesman for Jordan’s government has denied that the kingdom has announced a state of emergency, saying the media reports were baseless and “there was no cause for concern among its citizens”.

Government Communications Minister Muhannad Mubaideen told state news agency Petra that the government would take legal action against any business that spreads unverified rumors or allegations.

Biden meets in situation room with national security advisers

US President Joe Biden has begun his meeting in the situation room with national security advisers following the Iranian attacks on Israel, Reuters reports.

Iran-backed Huthi rebels in Yemen are launching drones at Israel in a coordinated attack

Yemen’s Huthi rebels launched several drones at Israel in coordination with Iran, security firm Ambrey said late Saturday, adding that the projectiles were likely timed to reach Israel simultaneously.

‘Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVS) were allegedly launched by the Huthis against Israel. The UAVs were launched in coordination with Iran,” the company said.

“Israeli ports are assessed as potential targets,” it added, warning of “collateral damage” to shipping.

Rishi Sunak has condemned ‘in the strongest terms’ Iran‘s ‘reckless attack’ against Israel after officials in Jerusalem said Tehran had launched drones against the country.

The Prime Minister said Britain will continue to stand up for the security of Israel and all our regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq‘ after the regional escalation.

It comes as Tehran launched around 100 kamikaze drones at Israel, in a ‘dangerous escalation’ of the conflict in the region.
