Jamie Carragher has hit back at Pep Guardiola’s comments about his failure to win the Premier League title.
Guardiola launched into an extraordinary six-and-a-half minute monologue on Tuesday defending his Manchester City players, insisting they will make history this season and refuting accusations of complacency.
Guardiola took aim at Sky Sports pundits Carragher, Micah Richards and Gary Neville, who suggested they were suffering from complacency after last year’s treble.
“Gary Neville knows how difficult it is, otherwise he would have won four Premier Leagues during Manchester United’s best period,” Guardiola said. “But he didn’t do it.” Perhaps they accuse us of being complacent because they felt complacent (at United). Perhaps they felt it. This team has no chance yet.
“Jamie Carragher hasn’t won a single title. Micah Richards has not won four Premier League titles in a row. Never ever. This never happened.

The former Liverpool star took to social media to joke about the manager’s comments.

“Honestly, I have nothing to say about the experts. That’s not the point (complacency). I may be wrong, but I don’t think it’s a matter of complacency.”
And Carragher hit back, saying he would have done so if his club were in the same boat as City.
He tweeted: “I think I would probably win one if Liverpool were owned by a nation state and so far gone in the rules that the Premier League charged us 115 times!
“I actually praised Pep’s team after the game on Sunday,” he added with a laughing emoji.”
The Premier League charged City with 115 alleged breaches of financial regulation in February after launching an investigation in 2018.
They agreed on a date in the fall of 2024 when they would meet before an independent panel in what may be the largest hearing in the competition’s history.
Those aware of the situation believe a decision could not come until the end of next season, when City manager Pep Guardiola’s current contract expires.

It is understood that the trial, which has been strictly confidential, is currently in the process of taking evidence from witnesses, which is likely to continue until next spring.
If the trial proceeds on time, a verdict will likely be reached around the summer of 2025.
However, delays may well push the proceedings back even further. And if either party finds the end result unpleasant, it will be difficult to imagine a world in which they are not lovable. This scenario will result in a significant increase in time.
If necessary, City may well explore further options, although they will not have the option of going to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, where they successfully overturned a UEFA Champions League ban.
