Jay Leno rolls around LA in his Tesla Cybertruck… 11 months after bone-breaking motorcycle crash that followed terrifying car fire
Jay Leno, who has long been known for his love of cars and his extensive car collection, gathered in Los Angeles this Wednesday.
The 73-year-old was seen in his Tesla Cybertruck, the newest version of which costs $49,890 for rear-wheel drive and $68,890 for all-wheel drive.
However, the comic has an older version of the model, which he showed off in a 2020 episode of his show Jay Leno’s Garage with Elon Musk as his guest.
This week, Jay proved his love for the Cybertruck continues unabated as he brought the huge contraption into town to run a couple of errands.
His exit came 11 months after he broke his collarbone in a motorcycle accident – an incident that occurred two months after he was burned to death in an engine fire.
Jay Leno, who has long been known for his love of cars and his extensive car collection, gathered in Los Angeles this Wednesday.
In November 2022, Jay Leno was working on one of his vintage cars in his garage when a 1907 steam engine exploded in his face.
He suffered third degree burns and was forced to spend 10 days in hospital, during which time he was treated in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.
Just two days after being discharged, Jay was proudly back in the saddle and driving around Los Angeles in another one of his vintage cars.
However, disaster struck again in January this year when Jay was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him with a broken collarbone and two ribs, as well as fractured both kneecaps.
He said Las Vegas Review Magazine he was “on a clothesline” when he drove into a wire strung across a parking lot without a flag attached.
A week after the accident, Jay suffered another setback when it was announced that his CNBC series about his cars had been cancelled.
In May he told Page six he was “feeling good” recovering from his injuries and shared that his enthusiasm for motorcycle riding had not waned.
Even his wife Mavis, who married him in 1980, is enthusiastic about his hobby. “As long as it’s not cocaine and girlfriends, she’s fine, trust me,” he joked.
The 73-year-old comedian was spotted driving around the city in his Tesla Cybertruck, which features a sci-fi inspired design.
Elon Musk himself appeared on CNBC’s Jay Leno’s Garage in 2020 to talk to the late-night host about the car.
Jay insisted he wasn’t looking for sympathy, pointing to his celebrity status by implying that “people like to see rich people light up.”
The New Rochelle-native artist noted, “Listen, when you’re in my position, when you’re a celebrity, you’re luckier than most people.”
He said, “So when something bad happens to you, you can’t whine and complain about it, because bad things happen to people every day – either they get burned or they get cut – and they don’t have the same financial resources, like mine”. .’
Jay, on the other hand, is “just kidding,” adding that “it’s Hollywood.” As long as you look good, you’re good. Nobody cares how you feel.”
