Kendall Jenner’s 818 Tequila team is accused of defacing a beloved AC/DC mural at a local bar in Indio while promoting the brand at Coachella

Kendall Jenner’s 818 Tequila team is being accused of causing damage to a beloved AC/DC mural at a local bar in Indio, California.

The model, 28, and her team have been promoting the alcohol brand during the first week of the Coachella music festival.

They put up a big 818 decal-like sign at Club 5 Bar, where they had a pop-up event pairing the tequila line last week.

But one of the owners, Randy Franco, now claims that Jenner’s team destroyed the AC/DC mural under the sign, leaving it worn and chipped, as per TMZ.

Meanwhile, sources close to Kendall told DailyMail.com that Randy and his mother, Carmen Franco, were aware that the mural may be damaged or even destroyed and signed a contract agreeing to it.

They also claim that Franco and his family were aware of the condition of the site after the event and did not raise any issues at the time.

Although the 818 decal looks like it was painted over the wall, it’s actually a separate piece that was attached to it.

Randy issued a press release Monday accusing Kendall’s company of leaving their newly installed AC/DC mural worn and chipped and making no attempt to restore it.

He claimed that he and his partners gave 818 permission to use the wall and put up the 818 sign, but had asked them to use a protective layer underneath so as not to damage the mural below.

He claims the team failed to do so and instead stuck the sign to the mural with adhesive, causing cracks and chips from the paint upon removal.

It’s unclear what, if anything, Randy plans to do about the situation, as he’s only contacted the event coordinator to express his frustration with the mural so far.

Meanwhile, according to an email seen by TMZ, Randy’s mother, Carmen, toured the premises and even pointed out the mural and said it was in fine condition when Kendall’s team left.

Jenner — who recently promoted the brand while making pasta with her sister Kylie for Valentine’s Day — launched her tequila brand, 818, in February 2021.

The brand won a top prize at the 2020 World Tequila Awards, even before its public launch.

On Friday night, the supermodel was spotted walking the grounds on the first day of the celebrity-studded weekend one of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.

She bundled up in a gray zip-up hoodie and brown leather jacket, choosing to keep a low profile in a blue baseball cap with the hood pulled over her head.

She also wore a pair of straight leg black jeans and shiny patent leather boots.

None of her famous family members seemed to have been present with her on the first day of the festival.

This year, the 818 Tequila founder also took her spirits brand to an ‘outpost’ – which she shared snaps of on her Instagram story – providing drinks and merchandise for partygoers.

The entrepreneur talked about his brand during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Australia and opened up about what drew her to the tequila business.

‘I grew up in California and my family has always been interested in tequila. I was fascinated by the history of sipping tequila and the production that went into it,” she said.

Jenner then stated that she set out to start a liquor brand that would appeal to a younger audience.

“I wanted to create something that resonated differently, with a high level of quality that spoke to a new generation of tequila consumers,” she said.

The model also expressed her intention for 818 Tequila to set a new standard for women-owned spirits businesses.

‘I felt the market was historically male-dominated – if you look at labels and marketing campaigns from other brands over the years, there are a lot of similarities. I wanted to make something that would appeal to everyone,’ she said.
