Kevin Costner’s marriage to second wife Christina Baumgartner is coming to an end after 18 years of marriage and three children.

Baumgartner, 49, cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the shock split, which reportedly left the 68-year-old Yellowstone star “stunned.”

And in the wake of his latest failed union, DailyMail.com takes a deep dive into the actor’s colorful personal life.

First wife Cindy Silva

In November 1994, Costner’s then-wife Cindy Silva filed for divorce after 16 years of marriage.

“We have resolved all issues regarding our children and financial affairs amicably and a full family agreement has been reached. We ask that we be allowed to process this more painful part of our lives with dignity in private,” the couple said in a statement read in 1994.

Costner and Silva met while they were both students at California State University, Fullerton.

They subsequently had three children.

The couple split amid multiple reports that Costner had an affair with a famous hula dancer named Michelle Amaral while he was filming his multimillion-dollar flop “Waterworld” in Hawaii.

In the end, Silva received approximately $80 million in the divorce.

In a 1995 interview, the Bodyguard star took responsibility for the breakdown of his marriage, but did not go into detail.

“A number of events happened simultaneously. I know some people were offended that my marriage failed. And this marriage became my own failure,” he said.

In an interview with Parade Magazine in 1995, Costner said that he had not even spoken to Amaral on the phone.

He also listed other women he was allegedly involved with, including Playboy model Angie Everhart and the daughter of casino magnate Steve Wynn.

“It was difficult for Cindy and our children. It did not help. The only thing it did was cause pain. The collapse of my marriage was the hardest thing for me,” said the “Dances with Wolves” star.

Costner continued to express his love for his first wife: “You can put that on the record. Despite all the pain, Cindy remained the lady I always thought she was. I still love Cindy.”

Silva supported Costner during his time as a struggling actor, working part-time jobs including playing Snow White at Disneyland.

Brief affair with Bridget Rooney

Less than two years after breaking up with Silva, Costner had a son, Liam, with Bridget Rooney.

She is an heir to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the aunt of actresses Rooney and Kate Mara.

In 1996, Rooney stated that she was “110% sure who the father” of her child was.

But Rooney still “insisted on a paternity test” to prove paternity, according to a 2002 PEOPLE article.

According to rumors, this months-long affair cost the actor $7 million.

Liam is now 27 years old.

“Madam” Michelle Amaral

Costner allegedly had an affair with a famous hula dancer named Michelle Amaral while he was filming his multimillion-dollar flop “Waterworld” in Hawaii.

Amaral was also married and the mother of two children when she met Costner.

At the time, the New York Daily News reported that the couple met at the Mauna Lani Hotel, and shortly after, Amaral was “spotted crawling out of his $4,500-a-day villa.”

According to an article in Departures Magazine, Amaral has taught hula around the world and is known as the island’s top soloist.

The Daily News report said Silva was alerted to the affair by someone who worked on Waterworld and was fired.

The same article accused Costner of numerous infidelities during his marriage.

At the time, Costner vehemently denied the allegations, saying he was simply interviewing Amaral for the job.

During an interview in which Amaral was brought up, Costner became furious.

“This woman did nothing wrong, and yet she had to share the harsh light of fame with me. I feel embarrassed and don’t think there’s anything I can do to make her life better.”

“This woman has a name, and making a thing out of her is the worst thing of all. This is wrong for her and her husband,” Costner said.

Second wife Christina Baumgartner

Costner and second wife Baumgartner first began dating in 1998, meeting around 1996 while Costner was filming his film Tin Cup.

The Bodyguard star said that when he first met her, he wasn’t ready to fall in love again.

Both are graduates of California State University, Fullerton. Baumgartner earned a business degree.

They married in 2004 in Aspen, Colorado, where Costner long maintained a 160-acre ranch known as Dunbar. The hotel has rooms available for rent for up to $36,000 per night.

The reason for the long courtship was that Costner wasn’t sure if he wanted more children. The uncertainty even led to them breaking up for a time before their engagement.

“Fear kept me from marrying Christina. (She) wanted a child, but I was afraid I wouldn’t be an effective father.”

“I woke up and thought: Am I really going to lose a beautiful woman who is ready to be with me until my last breath because I’m afraid to say yes to a child?” That’s all it took. Sometimes you learn that the thing you fear most will save your life,” he told Closer Weekly in 2018.

In 2011, Costner told the Daily Telegraph that his new family was the reason for his four-year break from filmmaking.

As recently as 2020, Costner gushed about how the couple’s relationship has strengthened during the Covid-19 pandemic. He told People: “Our partnership focuses on what we do for each other and how we treat our family.”

In 2022, Radar Online reported that Costner was given an ultimatum from his wife. The report stated that she demanded that he leave his hit show “Yellowstone” because he left the house so often.

“The show was such a mega hit that the producers want it to go on forever!” (Baumgartner) wants a firm commitment, this is his last season – or he may have to!,” a source told the site.

And on Tuesday, May 2, it became known that Baumgartner filed for divorce after 18 years of marriage.

A representative for Yellowstone asked for confidentiality, saying that “circumstances beyond his control have emerged that have resulted in Mr. Costner being forced to participate in a dissolution of marriage action” with Baumgartner.

The couple has three children, ages 12, 14 and 15, and both have filed for joint custody.

The family’s primary residence was in Ventura, California, 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, where they also owned an oceanfront mansion.

The couple entered into a prenuptial agreement set for September 2023.
