Kevin Costner’s ex-wife Christine Baumgartner says she’s not surprised he’s moved on – but is glad it’s with Jewel and not some ‘fame-seeking bimbo’ to come along and play mom to their three children

Kevin Costner’s ex-wife says it’s “bittersweet” to see her Yellowstone actor ex dating just three months after finalizing their contentious divorce.

But Christina Baumgartner thinks it could be worse, telling her friend that the last thing she would want is for some fame-seeking fool to come along and play mom to their children.

Last week it became known that Costner, 68, and Jewel, 49, were dating after TMZ received a photograph of the couple getting very close on Richard Branson’s Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands.

“Christina said she wasn’t surprised Kevin left so quickly, but he didn’t have to make it so obvious by hugging her.” a close friend told DailyMail.com,

The source added that Christina is glad Costner isn’t dating a “fame seeker” and that Jewel seems like a “down to earth person.”

“She said she was happy for him, but it was still not very nice to see her ex with someone new,” the friend said.

Kevin Costner, 68, and Jewel, 49 (pictured over Thanksgiving weekend) are dating and have mutual friend Richard Branson, 73, to thank for their blossoming romance.

The 68-year-old actor and his 49-year-old wife of 19 years were embroiled in a months-long legal battle that ended unexpectedly in September.

Kevin was stunned when Christina filed for divorce in May.

Now that Costner has moved on, Christina told friends that she “never imagined him and Jewel dating, but looking back, it makes sense.”

“They are both into music, this cowboy style. What’s not to like about it? At least Jewel is a down-to-earth person and has her own thing going,” our source said.

Jewel fits the Costner type: blonde and young.

“Christina said the last thing she wanted was for some fame-seeker to come along and play mom to their three children. But Jewel has her own son, she has her own life, and she’s not a gold digger. So that’s a relief.

Christina and Kevin have three children: Kayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13.

Jewel Case’s 12-year-old son, whom she shares with her professional cowboy ex-husband Ty Murray, also appears to have taken a trip to Branson’s luxury island.

TMZ shared images of Kevin with his arm around Jewel as she spoke into the microphone.

They looked very flirty and grinned from ear to ear while on the island for a tennis fundraiser for Jewel’s Inspiring Children Foundation.

A source told TMZ: “There was definitely something going on. They flirted, and when they were together, they both seemed to just light up.

“You could tell they were trying to play it safe, but anyone who saw them could tell something was going on.”

It was also reported that Jewel is “picky about who she dates” but feels Kevin “fits the bill” following her 2014 split from Murray.

The former couple can be seen with their 15-year-old sons Cayden; Hayes, 14; and daughter Grace, 13, in 2019. “Christina said the last thing she wanted was for some fame-seeker to come along and play mom to their three children. Kevin and Christina, a model and handbag designer, began dating in 1998 and married at his Aspen ranch in 2004.

Jewel fits Kevin’s type: blonde and young. He also had affairs with blondes Elle Macpherson, Joan Lunden and Cheryl Teigs and, of course, with his ex-wife Christina.

In July, Christina was kicked out of the couple’s $145 million mansion and vans were seen moving outside.

In her first day testimony, Christina said she needed more money to provide a suitable home for her three children.

She said her $40,000-a-month Montecito rent didn’t compare to the family mansion and complained that her sons would have to share a bathroom.

During his testimony, Kevin apologized to his ex-wife, saying: “I want to help, but the idea that things are blown out of proportion that I can’t do what I want… Somehow in this strange world we haven’t done it, and so , I’m sorry.’

The court also heard details of the family’s lavish spending, which totaled $240,000 a month in 2022.

Expenses included $40,000 spent each month on flowers and gifts alone, although Kevin’s forensic accountant Tracy Katz noted that figure was for the entire family, including Christina.

The couple reached an agreement that would likely be similar to the one Kevin previously proposed in a letter sent on June 30, which would have paid her $75,000 a month in child support.
