A major incident has been declared in South Wales after a “loud explosion” was heard before a “major fire” broke out in an industrial area.
Pictures show the building engulfed in flames, with a plume of smoke still visible from afar.
The fire is reported to have broken out in the early evening in Treforest Industrial Estate, Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Witnesses told WalesOnline they heard a “huge explosion” that shook houses, with one saying: “My house was shaking, it must have been a big explosion.”
Local hospital emergency departments are on high alert due to the incident and are asking people not to visit the emergency room “unless absolutely necessary.”
Heledd Fychan, Welsh MP for South Wales Central, described the images and reports of the incident as “very disturbing”.
She urged people to heed warnings from emergency services and avoid the area.
South Wales Police said in an online statement: “We are at the scene of a serious incident in Severn Road, Treforest.
“Roads around the industrial area are currently closed and are expected to remain so for some time. Please avoid this place.”
This is sensational news, more to come later.
