Man, 20, arrested after attempted rape on Tooting Common

A man has been arrested following reports of an attempted rape in south London.

A woman called police in the early hours of Sunday morning, April 14, to report the incident in Tooting Common.

The alleged victim is being supported by specialists while police investigate what happened.

The Met Police say they have arrested a 20-year-old man following the report on suspicion of attempted rape and he remains in custody.

Scotland Yard is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about what happened to get in touch.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘An investigation is underway after police received a report of an attempted rape in Tooting.

‘Police were called at around 2.50am on Sunday April 14 following the incident on Tooting Common.

‘The woman who reported the incident is being supported by specialists.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and remains in police custody.

‘Any witnesses please call police on 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC quoting CAD931/14Apr.

‘You can also give information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.’
