Man with ‘multiple lacerations’ and a shoelace tied around his neck is found dead in Central Park playground in suspected suicide

A man was found dead on a playground in Central Park with a cord around his neck.
Horrified families discovered the body and called police, who arrived at the Heckscher playground near Center Drive and 62nd Street in New York City at 8:37 a.m. Monday.
Police said the unidentified man had multiple lacerations to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
He had a cord tied around his neck and police sources said his death was believed to be a case of suicide.

The cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and police have not said whether they suspect foul play.
Over the past week, 2,314 crimes were reported in New York City, down 4.93 percent from the same time last year but up 24.32 percent from 2021.
These included five murders, 43 rapes – almost double the number in 2022 – 344 robberies and 444 assaults.
