Manchester United ‘identify RB Leipzig striker Lois Openda as a potential January transfer option’, as Erik ten Hag looks to reinforce his attacking options at Old Trafford

Manchester United are reportedly considering a potential January move for RB Leizpig striker Lois Openda.

Erik ten Hag’s side are looking for attacking reinforcements during the winter transfer window after an underwhelming start to the 2023/24 season.

The Red Devils suffered their fourth Premier League defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday as they failed to score in a 3-0 win at Bournemouth.

According to The Mirror, in response to their struggles in front of goal, the Red Devils have considered a potential move for Belgian striker Openda.

The 23-year-old has scored 14 goals in 21 games for Leipzig since his £35 million move from French club Lens last summer.

Two of those goals came during Leipzig’s 3-2 defeat to United rivals Manchester City in the Champions League group stage.

The publication claims that United’s senior scout reported to manager Ten Hag about Openda’s brilliant performance at the Etihad and it is believed that the club have made him a high target.

However, league rivals Tottenham are also reported to be interested in the Belgian international amid the ongoing battle for Brazilian forward Richarlison.

United will be looking to strengthen their attacking line after struggling in front of goal this year, as evidenced by their disappointing defeat to the Cherries.

The defeat means that since Ferguson left the club, Ten Hag’s side have suffered more defeats at home than the legendary manager suffered in his 27 years in charge of the Red Devils. Squawk.

Ferguson, who won 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies with the Red Devils, lost just 34 times at home during his managerial career at the club.

Meanwhile, United have suffered four defeats at Old Trafford this season, losing to Brighton, Crystal Palace, Manchester City and now Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth.

Interestingly, it was United’s heaviest defeat at home to a side who had climbed out of the bottom half of the table at the start of the weekend, with Bournemouth now up to 13th in the standings, level with Chelsea, Brentford and Wolves with 19 points.
