Michael Bisping has hit back at Justin Gaethje accusing him of “talking crooked” for suggesting Dustin Poirier should have the next title shot.
Poirier, who was knocked out by Gaethje’s stunning head kick last July, bounced back with a stunning victory over Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 299.
Bisping suggested the win would make him the logical next contender for Islam Makhachev’s title, a route Gaethje took exception to on the X, writing: ‘Bisping talking b****cks.’
Gaethje is set to fight Max Holloway in one of the most exciting fights at UFC 300 this Saturday night.
And now Bisping is back to explain his reasoning and tell MMA fight: ‘Justin Gaethje kind of came to me on Twitter and I understand.
Justin Gaethje takes on Max Holloway for the BMF belt at UFC 300 this Saturday
Gaethje took exception to Michael Bisping and said Dustin Poirier should have a title shot
‘None. 1, I am not the matchmaker. I just threw it out there and said, wow, with that performance and the way that fight went with Dustin Poirier, I see another reason and why he could get that opportunity.
‘But the main reason I said that was that Justin Gaethje is fighting a featherweight. So right now you are booked up.
‘Islam wants to be busy. Will apparently still fight three times this year. If he wasn’t booked to fight Max Holloway I’d say it doesn’t make sense, Justin Gaethje is the guy.
“But he’s booked, it’s as simple as that. And guess what? You are fighting someone not named Islam Makhachev. You’re fighting someone who isn’t even a 155er.
‘It’s just the landscape we’re in because of a contract he signed. Nothing to do with me’.
Apparently, Gaethje is extremely confident of beating Holloway for the BMF belt this weekend, but should ‘Blessed’ pull off the upset, Poirier’s chances for the next shot at Mahachev would increase.

Charles Oliveira defeated Justin Gaethje in one of the American’s two title fights
The Russian was last in action in October 2023, beating Alexander Volkanovski for the second time.
Both Gaethje and Poirier have previously fallen short in their bid to become lightweight champion, so they are desperate for another shot.
‘The Highlight’ tasted defeat against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira, the same opponents who saw off Poirier.
