Mitchell Johnson will go head-to-head with David Warner in Perth next week for the first Test as his management confirmed Triple M did not sack him as a commentator after attacking his former teammate.

The news comes after Johnson slammed Warner in a recent newspaper column.

The former fast bowler criticized the decision to include Warner, who has averaged just 22.81 runs in Test cricket this year, in the first Test XI in Perth and insisted the opener should not be given a hero’s farewell given his role in the sandpaper. 2018.

It was reported that Johnson was sacked by Triple M when his name was not included in the list of 18 commentators for the upcoming summer of cricket.

However, Johnson’s management cleared up any confusion by saying their client will be behind the microphone for the Test against Pakistan on December 14.

Johnson questioned why Warner publicly announced his intention to retire from international white-ball cricket in June after the Sydney Test against Pakistan – without many former Australian greats – notably Ricky Ponting and Ian Healy – not leaving on their own terms.

National selector George Bailey also found himself in Johnson’s crosshairs, accusing him of being too close to the playing group.

Bailey responded by questioning the former bowler’s mental health, leaving Johnson “disgusted”.

Johnson has since said his uncompromising criticism of Warner’s column was motivated by a harsh text message Warner sent to his former teammate in April.

“I got a message from Dave that was very personal and I tried to call him to talk about it,” Johnson said on The Mitchell Johnson Cricket Show podcast.

“Back then, until that moment, it was never personal. This is what prompted me to write an article or part of it. It’s definitely a factor. Some things he mentioned in this post.

“I won’t talk about it (in more detail) because Dave has to say if he wants to talk about it. There was something there that he said was extremely disappointing, and frankly, pretty bad. It was kind of a driver.”

Reflecting on Bailey’s comments, Johnson said: “Asking if I’m okay because I’ve had mental health issues is pretty much downplaying my article and focusing it on mental health, which is pretty disgusting,” he said.

‘I’m fine. I am not angry. I’m not jealous. I’m just writing the article I thought I needed to write.

“It’s basically taking a dig at someone’s mental health and saying I must have something going on, a mental health issue made me say what I said.” It is not true.

Johnson also stepped up his attacks on Warner on the podcast.

After Johnson called for Warner to be dropped from this year’s Australian Ashes tour, Candace Warner (right) hit back, saying his opinion didn’t matter and “doesn’t matter much”.

“It looks like it’s related. The selectors talked about picking guys based on form,” Johnson said.

“If you look at David’s form, the article is about him. His form in England hasn’t been very good. So, you don’t kind of pick someone based on shape.

I have also written good articles about David. I have always said that I am a completely different thinker. I’m not a traditional cricketer. I didn’t play much at a young age.

“I didn’t grow up with it as much as others. I always questioned things and had a different thought process.

“And what probably confused me was that I got a text from him (Bailey) at odd hours in the morning and he wasn’t respectful and didn’t call. That’s all.

Daily Mail Australia has approached Triple M, whose books also feature Warner’s wife Candice, for comment.
