A North Carolina mom has been charged with murder after her 10-year-old son’s decomposing body was found in their home, where police say the child died of starvation.

A 911 call led police to Priyanka Tiwari, 33,’s home in Morrisville around 5:35 p.m. Wednesday.

When officers entered the house on Craigmead Drive they were greeted with a horrific scene. Tiwari’s young son was unresponsive, could not be revived by CPR, and his body began to decompose.

Investigators found almost no food in the house, and police said the boy had lost a lot of weight in the month before his death.

“Without an autopsy, we don’t know how the child died,” Morrisville Police Chief Pete Acosta told WRAL.
