More than a dozen men in balaclavas waving Australian flags were detained on the train by police in shocking scenes.

A group of men dressed all in black are being held on a train at Artarmon station in Sydney’s north after the group swarmed the train on Friday afternoon.

NSW Police have confirmed the start of a police operation in North Sydney.

All train passengers were evacuated.

The group of men are believed to have walked through the station, located in the posh suburb, with goggles and balaclavas covering their faces.

They could be heard chanting while waving Australian flags and one man who was part of the group was seen carrying a shield.
