Golf influencer Paige Spiranac has slammed Zach Johnson after the former US Ryder Cup captain was caught angrily telling fans at The Masters to “f*** off” on Friday.

Johnson, who led the US team at last year’s Ryder Cup in Rome, had a difficult second round at Augusta National.

He struggled to save a double bogey on the 12th hole when he missed a putt from about 10 feet.

After walking up to his ball and chipping it in from close range for triple bogey, there was a wave of applause from the guests gathered around the green.

Enraged by the gesture, he angrily shouted ‘f*** off’, which was clearly picked up by nearby microphones.

It compounded a miserable day for Johnson, who finished three-over to bring his total score to seven-over. That means he won’t make the cut this weekend.

Spiranac was not impressed with Johnson’s behavior and took to social media to lash out at him.

She wrote: ‘The patrons at Augusta are incredibly supportive and gentle demeanor.

“You can’t find a more comfortable environment to play golf in. The fact that ZJ said this proves he’s softer than baby poo. Such a bad look.’

Speaking after his round, Johnson apologized and insisted he was actually swearing at himself out of frustration.

He said: ‘After my putt for double bogey? Or after my putt for triple – I guess it doesn’t really matter. I don’t understand the situation at all. What do they say I did or said?

‘That I swore to patrons? It’s laughable. It’s completely ridiculous. I can’t hear patrons, number one.

‘Number two, I just made a triple bogey on the 12th hole, which is obviously going to make me miss the cut, which at the time knew was pretty sensitive in the sense that I had to keep making pars.

‘If I’ve said something that I’m not going to deny, especially if it’s on camera, one, I apologize, and two, it was completely directed at myself because I can’t hear anything behind me. Does it make sense?’

Johnson is a former Masters champion. He won the Green Jacket in 2007 after narrowly beating Tiger Woods and South African duo Retief Goosen and Rory Sabbatini.

The 48-year-old also won The Open in 2015 and has 26 wins as a professional golfer.

Despite his success, this isn’t the first time Johnson has clashed with golf fans this season.

At the typically raucous Waste Management Open in Phoenix in February, he was seen shaking down a group for making too much noise.

Although it is not clear why the American became so furious, he was filmed saying: ‘I’m just fed up with this. Just shut up!’

Speaking after his round that day, Johnson said: ‘You’re hitting me at a very emotional time right now, so if I had to say do I want to come back, I’d probably say no. But at the same time I have no idea’.
