‘Wow Forget About Us is #1 on iTunes UK and the lyric video is #2. I am so proud of you Perry!! Congratulations!!’: ‘This song is SO GOOD Perrie and Ed Sheeran and whoever else helped write this song did a brilliant job can’t wait for the next single’ : ‘Perrie deserves so much so much! So happy for her!!’.

Perrie is to follow in the footsteps of former bandmates Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson about to go solo.

And the singer, who was previously engaged to Direction’s Zayn Malik before footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, revealed the new track was inspired by her former saying: ‘I look back on past relationships and think fondly of those times’.

‘Do I want to be there now? No. It didn’t work that way, and if it was meant to be, it would have happened. Relationships have been a big part of my life and they have made me who I am now’.

Before you add: ‘I think it’s a lovely feeling to be honest and it’s super relatable.’

Perrie, who shares two-year-old son Axel with fiance Alex, said her upcoming album would also feature rock and roll, country and disco influences.

‘Going into sessions as a solo artist now and being able to say what I want and what I feel is just the most amazing experience’.

She continued: ‘I’ve never had the confidence to do that before, but this process has allowed me to believe in myself and explore all my different feelings and different parts of my life.’

The majority of the record was recorded at her home in North London after Alex suggested they convert their disused dining room into a home studio.

She admitted: ‘I’m so proud of what I’ve done and created. I wanted it to be fun above all else and showcase my singing through ballads and big vocal numbers’.

Before revealing her plans to tour with a live band: ‘Having people sing your songs back to you is the best natural high in the world. I’m just so excited to see how fans react to my music now.’

While the musician co-wrote Forget About Us with Ed, 33, she also announced the duo had collaborated on another song.

Perrie explained: ‘I feel like all the collaborations happened organically. With Ed Sheeran he had a song and he called me about it and we discussed the concept.’

She continued: ‘I loved the tune, loved the vibe – I look up to him so much, I think he’s one of the most talented people on earth.

“He’s also such a nice and genuine person, so that’s why I felt comfortable being like, ‘I love it, but conceptually it’s not me. I’m not at that stage in my life right now. Would you be okay if I adapted the lyrics to fit me and my life?”

“And he just said, ‘Sure!’ He wanted me to have full ownership of it, so I went away and did it.’

Formed on The X Factor in 2010, Little Mix enjoyed huge success throughout their 11-year recording career before announcing their split in December 2021.

But the bandmates have had somewhat mixed fortunes since confirming their decision to call it quits.

Former member Jesy, who left the band in 2020 to prioritize her mental health, initially signed a solo deal with Polydor Records.

The two parted ways with the label in 2022 following a lukewarm response to her debut single, Boyz.

The singer later released second solo single Bad Thing independently, but the track failed to break into the UK Top 100 singles chart.

Jesy has since scrapped plans to release third single Cried Out in favor of an ‘up-tempo banger’ which she claims is ‘me in a nutshell’, according to sources.

Speaking to The Mirror, an insider said: ‘Jesy has listened to her critics. Desperate to give fans something epic, she’s doing everything she can to find her authentic sound, but the sudden change has unsettled her camp.

‘Last year it was thought that most of her debut album was finished – even the artwork was in place – but Jesy has since made a huge u-turn and everything is being reworked, even the aesthetic, as it doesn’t match her new up-tempo direction.’

In 2022, Leigh-Anne signed her own solo deal with Warner Records and released her debut single Don’t Say Love in June 2023.
