A “selfless” mother who tragically died in a horrific accident along with her two dogs has been named.

Marie Theobald, 48, from Hainault, east London, was walking her dogs Riley and Honey in Chigwell, Essex, when they were all hit by a car at around 5pm on Friday evening.

Officers investigating a crash on Manford Way have arrested a man.

A statement released by Ms Theobald’s family on Sunday said: “Mary was a loving mother, daughter, sister, niece and friend.

“Maria was an honest, hardworking, selfless woman who would do anything for anyone. Marie always put others first.

“The dogs, Riley and Honey, were much loved members of the family.

“They adored Marie as she adored them.

“May they all rest together in perfect peace.

“The family now requests that their privacy be respected.”

Law enforcement officers were called to the scene at 5:09 pm on Friday. According to the Met, a car, believed to be a white Seat Leon, collided with a pedestrian who was walking two dogs.

Police, London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance attended the scene but despite their efforts Ms Theobald was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family has been informed and is receiving support from specialists.

The driver of the car was unable to stop at the scene, and the car was nearby shortly after the collision.

A man was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident and taken into police custody.
