Rory McIlroy has emphatically denied reports that he is close to joining LIV Golf, insisting he will remain on the PGA Tour for the rest of his career.
It was claimed after The Masters that the Northern Irishman could be on the brink of a seismic $850m U-turn to join the Saudi-backed breakaway.
But on Tuesday, McIlroy insisted he has never even received an offer from LIV Golf.
He said: ‘I honestly don’t know how these things start. I have never been offered a number from LIV and I have never considered going to LIV.
‘I think I’ve made it clear over the last two years that I don’t think it’s for me. That doesn’t mean I’m judging people who have gone and played over there. I think one of the things I’ve realized over the last two years is: people can make their own decisions for what they think is best for themselves and who are we to judge them for it? For me personally, my future is here on the PGA Tour and it has never been different.
“I think over the last two years there have been so many rumors about guys, and the one thing that I’ve realized as well is: guys have to keep an open mind, and I’m sure that there have been guys who are still playing on the PGA Tour who have talked to the guys from LIV and had offers and whatever.
‘But it’s never even been a conversation for us, and it’s one of those things. It’s unfortunate that we have to deal with that and that’s the state our game is in, but obviously I’m here today and I’m playing this PGA Tour event next week and I want to play on the PGA Tour the rest of my career. ‘
