Roy Keane picks out Man United flop as this season’s ‘biggest disappointment’ in the Premier League, as Jamie Carragher admits the Red Devils have ‘gone backwards’ since he came into the team

  • Roy Keane is very disappointed with one particular Manchester United player
  • Jamie Carragher agrees United’s failure failed to improve the team
  • United is like a rotten window frame that you paint over to make it look better, but the problem still remains. It all begins

Roy Keane believes one of Manchester United’s summer signings has been the biggest disappointment of the season.

United spent a lot of money over the summer in hopes of finishing third last season, but it has yet to pay dividends as they find themselves in sixth place after losing six of their first 15 league games.

They are also on the verge of elimination from the Champions League, putting pressure on coach Erik ten Hag.

Much of United’s problems in Europe stem from their defensive struggles, with goalkeeper Andre Onana making a number of high-profile errors. Keane is not thrilled with the £47million defender but still believes his former club were right to move on from their long-time number one David de Gea in the summer.

Keen told Podcast “Stick to Football”: “The biggest disappointment was Andre Onana.

“I think Manchester United were right to get rid of David de Gea, but the club took someone else and he had to struggle…”

Jamie Carragher has also been unimpressed with Onana since he joined the team at Old Trafford.

The Cameroonian played a key role in Inter Milan’s run to the Champions League final last season and was expected to take United to the next level having previously been praised for his ability to play from the back.

But Carragher believes Onana and Arsenal colleague David Raya have failed to perform at a higher level than their predecessors De Gea and Aaron Ramsdale.

Raya was at fault for two goals in Arsenal’s last game against Luton on Tuesday and the Gunners needed Declan Rice’s late header to salvage a 4-3 win at Kenilworth Road.

Carragher suggested United and Arsenal could actually be worse off with their current goalkeepers.

“The biggest disappointments in the Premier League this season will be the two goalkeepers of Manchester United and Arsenal (Onana and Raya),” Carragher added.

“After they came in as an ‘improvement’ on the previous goalkeepers, they were pretty bad, and since they came in the situation has pretty much stayed the same or even gone backwards.”

While Keane and Carragher criticized Onana, Ian Wright expressed concern about Ten Haeg and his failure to develop a clear style of play at United.

Wright compared the Dutchman to Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou, insisting Ten Hag should have found a way to dominate matches over the last 18 months as the Australian did in north London in a much shorter period of time.

“When I look at the way Manchester United play, you only have to look at the way Ange (Postecoglou) and how he changed everything so quickly (at Spurs) and the pattern of play and that how they want to act. certain things – I still haven’t seen that with United at the moment,” Wright said.

“He’s been there for 18 months – we have to see how Manchester United play, they have to control the situation and win games now.”
