The New Orleans Saints announced that quarterback Derek Carr has cleared concussion protocol but will be listed as questionable against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Carr suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against Detroit after being hit by Lions defensive lineman Bruce Irvin.
“I feel better, but I’m doing great, that’s for sure,” Carr said in a team report Friday.
Sunday was Carr’s second trip into concussion protocol this season. On November 12, Carr suffered a concussion against the Minnesota Vikings and was taken off the field. The subsequent bye week allowed Carr to recover and play in the next game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Carr has yet to miss a game despite being out three with injuries. Additionally, Carr admittedly hasn’t been bothered by back-to-back concussions over a three-week period.

“Our doctors and the independent doctor said everything was perfect,” Carr said. “They showed me the results compared to things. I don’t have any concerns about this.
“It didn’t feel like these two were even related to each other. So for me it’s just the cost of doing business and playing football. So no worries about that, long term or short term.”
Carr’s Week 3 shoulder injury and additional rib injury were listed on this week’s injury report.
Joining Carr on the questionable list are quarterback Taysom Hill, who is dealing with a foot and arm injury, and wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, who is dealing with a hip complication. Receiver Chris Olave missed two practices with the flu.
Carr expressed his readiness to play against the Panthers on Sunday as the Saints look to snap a three-game losing streak. New Orleans currently has a 5-7 record and is in second place in the NFC South.
“Everyone has had something break when they’ve dealt with this or that,” Carr said. “I received treatment, followed protocol procedures, but most importantly, did everything necessary to do my job.”
