Just after winning The Masters for the second time, world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler paid tribute to his wife, Meredith.

Meredith Scheffler was unable to travel to Augusta National as she is expecting her and Scottie’s first child in the coming days.

Just after stepping off the 18th green and into the Butler Cabin for the airborne green jacket ceremony, Scheffler was asked if he had anything to say to his wife back home.

“I’m coming home,” he said. ‘I’ll come home as soon as I can. Yes, I love you and I’m coming home. That is all.’

When asked further, he joked: ‘You make me cry.

‘It’s a very, very special time for both of us. I really can’t put into words what it’s like to win this tournament again, I really can’t put into words what it’s like to be a father for the first time.

‘So I’m looking forward to coming home and celebrating with Meredith, it’s been a long week here without her.’

Speaking again publicly at the official ceremony, Scheffler echoed the sentiment in a speech.

‘I love you baby, I’m excited for the next few weeks. I’m excited to get home. I miss you and I love you and I’ll be home soon.’

Scheffler was potentially awaiting news of Meredith, his high school sweetheart, going into labor, and he made it clear that he would withdraw from the tournament if she went into labor.

Fortunately for Scottie, that didn’t happen, and he claimed the $3.6 million prize for winning the tournament – and of course, the famous green jacket.
