Shocking moment trapped baby is rescued from the smoking wreckage of an overturned car

A small child who was trapped inside the smoking wreckage of an overturned car was rescued by emergency services this morning and taken to hospital.

Emergency services were called to Okehampton Crescent, Welling, Bexleyheath at 6.26am this morning after receiving reports of an accident in which a relief company vehicle had flipped onto its roof.

A woman and child were injured.

Police and fire crews worked to safely remove the child from the vehicle, who was then handed over to paramedics for medical evaluation.

After this, both the woman and the child were taken to the hospital.

Video from the scene shows police and firefighters dealing with the incident, with a car on its roof and glass and debris strewn across the road.

Police confirmed that no arrests have been made and the injuries to the woman and child “are not considered critical.”

The road remains closed and drivers are urged to avoid the area.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 6.26am this morning (December 10) to reports of a road traffic collision in Okehampton Crescent, Welling.

“We sent an ambulance to the scene, which arrived in less than seven minutes.

“We examined the woman and child and took them to the hospital.”

A police spokesman added: “Ambulance colleagues called police at 06:28 on Sunday, December 10, to an overturned car at the junction of St Michael’s Rise with Okehampton Crescent, Welling.

“Officers were present along with LAS and LFB.

“The woman and child were taken to hospital as a precaution. Their injuries are not considered critical. No arrest occurred.

“The road remains closed at this location.”
