Musician and songwriter Aaron Dessner, 47, talks to People on Tuesday, when the singer covered the magazine’s issue of the year’s most intriguing people.

“She’s really just a very practical and hard-working person.”

Dessner called the 33-year-old Grammy winner “the hardest working artist he has ever encountered” as she is “involved in every aspect of the writing and production of her songs and has an incredible focus and attention to detail.”

The Shake It Off singer “never really stops writing songs,” according to Dessner, a member of the rock band The National, who began working with Swift more than three years ago.

Dessner praised Swift for her stage presence during her wildly successful The Eras Tour.

“The world saw her perform 44 songs a night on tour, performing for over three hours,” Dessner said. “She makes it look easy, but in reality it is a feat of incredible endurance.

“It’s hard to think of an example of someone who would match those results, except maybe Bruce Springsteen, but he doesn’t have to cover as many ground as Taylor.”

Dessner said he expects Swift to “keep writing better and better songs and experimenting stylistically” because she “has so many stories to tell.”

The musician said: “Sometimes she jokes that she likes to literally change what she writes her songs with, sometimes it’s ink or a glitter pen, but for me it’s often more like a 19th century pen.

“I think she will continue to invent new ways and methods of writing and continue to expand this magical universe that she herself has created for us all to enjoy.”

Dessner told the publication about the “completely surreal” way he came to work with Swift during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“When Taylor first messaged me about texting her remotely during the pandemic, I almost didn’t believe it was her at first,” he said. “Taylor never made me feel a shadow of her previous work or success. There was no pressure at all.”
