A neighbor eventually saw the attack and dialed 911.

Police soon arrived on the scene and fatally shot one of the two dogs, injuring the other.

The second dog was later euthanized as part of animal control.

Emergency personnel rushed Shaw to hospital as his previous health problems contributed to the effects of the attack.

After a hospital stay that included 15 surgeries, Shaw died Dec. 4, his sister said.

“He had to have his leg amputated due to dog bites and infections in his body from the dog bites,” Michelle Shaw, another of Antonio’s 12 siblings, told ABC6.

Jackson added: “It didn’t go very well for him. He hung in there, but things turned out even worse.”

Shaw, a father of three, was loved by those closest to him.
