The fierce rivalry between CF Monterrey and UANL Tigres took another turn after an injured goalkeeper was seen on camera shining a laser pointer at his opponent.
Monterrey has filed a formal complaint with Liga MX’s disciplinary committee against Nahuel Guzman, who plays for Tigres and was seen in several videos allegedly shining a green laser pointer on the pitch from a suite.
Telemundo was the first to report the news of the complaint, while Athletics reports that an investigation is underway.
A Liga MX spokesperson also told The Athletic that the league’s disciplinary committee will decide whether to conduct its own investigation at a meeting on Monday.
Guzman is the typical starting keeper for Tigres and is known for his mischievous behavior both on and off the pitch – but he was injured for the match. Previous incidents include him performing a magic trick before a penalty kick, hiding under a tarp after being sent off and several incidents of fighting with other players.

Unfortunately for Guzman, his latest antics didn’t work as Monterrey came back from two goals down to draw 3-3 in the match known locally as Clasico Regiomontano.
In the complaint, Guzman is accused of pointing the laser at Monterrey goalkeeper Esteban Andrada.
After the fight, Andrada went on an explosive rant on Instagram (which included homophobic slurs) criticizing Guzman’s behavior.
Several videos on social media show a man who appears to resemble Guzman in a luxury suite with his arms crossed before a green laser beam appears to emanate from his left hand.
It includes security camera video (first link above) from Estadio BBVA, Monterrey’s home stadium.
Guzman was critical of officials in an Instagram post of his own, suggesting that Monterrey’s stoppage-time equalizer should not have counted – and argued that the corner from which the goal originated did not have the ball properly placed on the corner marker. He also complained that the kick took place in the tenth minute of added time, despite only eight minutes being added.
Laser pointers are generally not allowed in stadiums – but they are occasionally used in Latin America to distract opposition players.
