Triple H booked himself to BEAT CM Punk back in 2011 because the former AEW man ‘got under his skin’, insist WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash

Two-time WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash suggested that Triple H only went out of his way to beat CM Punk over a decade ago because the superstar “got under his skin.”

Nash, a former WWE champion in the 1990s, returned in 2011 and seemed ready to work an angle with the then-hot CM Punk.

However, Triple was acting as an on-screen authority figure at the time and signed up for a match against Punk instead. This upset Nash in storyline, leading to a feud and a one-man match between him and Nash at the end of the year.

Talking about your Click on it podcast, Nash explained why Triple H made this decision behind the scenes.

“It’s funny how Vince (McMahon) has taken a backseat in all this and I see Paul (Levesque aka Triple H) owning it now,” Nash said. “For example, he owns this company, if we talk about the fact that he is a creative person. His behavior, he is in complete control of the situation.”

Fans are still confused about the angle involving Kevin Nash, Triple H and CM Punk.

Nash continued: “There was never anyone in the ring that had his talent… he was with us and we were all ruthless and we were all very invested in our success. Now Paul is completely different.

“When I was supposed to fight Punk, he hit Triple H really hard. Paul just came up to me and said, ‘I’m going to beat him. You won’t fight him. I’ll beat him.”

Chill. That’s why Punk and I never fought. He said, “I have to beat this bastard.”

Triple H may not have liked CM Punk back then, but now as the creative head, it was The Game who orchestrated his return to the company.

CM Punk returned to WWE nine years after leaving his contract with much hostility.

Punk and Nash never met inside the squared circle, and the former left the company three years later.

After a nine-year absence that included a controversial stint in AEW, the world’s second-ranked professional wrestling promotion, Punk returned home to WWE and announced his presence in the 2024 Royal Rumble match on RAW this week.

Punk, 45, left AEW under difficult circumstances following an altercation with Jack Perry at the AEW All In show at Wembley earlier this year.

The former 0-2 UFC fighter has only been back in AEW for a few months, having previously been suspended/injured following a backstage bout at All Out in 2022.

Upon his return to WWE, Punk received rave reviews backstage for his attitude and demeanor. His feud with Seth Rollins began in earnest on RAW this week, with many speculating that they could be the main event of one of the two nights of WrestleMania 40.
