Troubled radio star Marty Sheargold prepares for return to the spotlight… but it doesn’t involve his Triple M Breakfast show

Marty Sheargold returns to the public eye after taking time off from his Triple M breakfast show.

Earlier this year, the 52-year-old radio presenter officially announced an “extended break” from work following an alleged incident at the AFL Grand Final.

It was alleged that Sheargold was ejected by security due to a number of offensive comments he allegedly made to other guests at a corporate event.

Neither Sheargold nor Triple M’s parent company Southern Cross Austereo have confirmed whether the radio star will return to his breakfast show in 2024.

However, he will return to his stand-up roots, appearing alongside comedians Mick Molloy, Lawrence Mooney and Sam Pang in a special event called Comedians at the Geelong Arts Center in February.

According to the promotional video, the star-studded show will be “No Holds Barred, Good Old Fashioned Stand-Up Comedy.”

“Radio, TV, movies, podcasts—they’ve done it all, and now they’re bringing all the laughter to the stage.”

In November, Sheargold’s show boosted ratings in his absence, receiving a 7.2 percent audience share, up 1.4 percent from the previous survey.

The Marty Sheargold Show previously had a 5.8 rating, placing it in eighth place in the Melbourne breakfast radio market.

Sheargold producer Lauren Barry was in Sydney in October as one of the presenters for the ACRA Awards.

She told The Herald Sun that Sheargold would return, reassuring show listeners that “everything is fine”.

“He’s just taking some time, he’s just spending time with his family, but we’re doing good,” Barry said.

‘Everything is fine. We’ll be back.’

She also shed light on the grueling life behind the microphone, saying: “Working in breakfast radio you just get really tired.” It’s very tedious work.”

Marty also stars in the ABC sitcom Fisk, which was produced by Netflix and shown in the UK and US.
