“So after the first video, which gives you a little idea of what I’ve been up to, this video is a little introduction to the first two weeks after surgery, with everything that comes with coming to terms with injury,” Mings begins, speaking . over a video of himself in the hospital. “I hope this sheds some light on what it looks like in reality.
The video then flashes back to August 12, the day Mings suffered an ACL injury at St James’ Park.
“It’s been about five hours since the injury,” Mings says, sitting on his bed. “I just got home and I’m in a lot of pain, let’s wait for the next few months.”
“I know from previous injuries that some days are good, some days are bad, some days you feel a little positive, some days you feel a little sorry for yourself.
“Now everyone knows that the injury has been confirmed as a long-term cruciate ligament.”
Fans feared he would announce his retirement even before he posted his final video.
The 30-year-old has promised to be an important player for Unai Emery’s Villa side this season.
The video then cuts to Aug. 16, the day of Mings’ surgery, when he learned that the injury he suffered was more than just an ACL problem.
“I originally thought it was just an ACLL injury, but the surgeon did a few extra things, and without going into too much detail, there is also a little cartilage damage, so it’s very difficult to wake up after surgery,” Mings said.
In a video of him lying in a hospital bed, the defender says: “I am in excruciating pain. I can’t put any weight on my knee. I’m a marathon, not a sprint, it just takes a little longer.”
Additional footage is then shown of Ming’s surgery, including his knee and how it was improving after surgery.
“The first couple of weeks after surgery were ups and downs,” the voiceover continued. “I was in and out of hospital several times when I was sick.
“I think one of the things that people don’t always take into account is the lack of independence when you have to use crutches, because for someone who is used to being very active and relying on people, it’s obviously a difficult situation.
“Sitting in the background and watching the team on TV I feel a lot of pride, sometimes a little disappointment that I’m not playing, but in the end everything was fine, it was just the first few weeks that were difficult at the beginning.” rehabilitation.
His season had barely begun before he was ruled out of the campaign and Euro 2024.
Mings promised to show further updates as details are revealed in the first few weeks after surgery.
As upbeat music starts playing in the background, the video cuts to Sept. 24, more than a month after surgery, and shows Mings exercising and walking unaided.
He can be seen at the gym doing light exercises and the video ends with the words: “More ideas to come.”
The defender received widespread praise for sharing a video of his recovery, giving insight into what goes on behind the scenes that fans don’t necessarily see.
“Love the insight into your journey Ty, you make us even more proud,” replied one Aston Villa fan, while another said: “Just think of the reception you’ll get when you return to the pitch for the Villa big man A park”. We will be waiting for you.”
