Uber Eats customer goes hungry after receiving an empty burger box from McDonald’s – here’s why it happened

An Uber Eats customer has been left furious and hungry after an apparent glitch on the app resulted in her being delivered an empty box from McDonald’s.

Mel had ordered a Double Big Mac and was ready to enjoy her meal when it was delivered to her front door.

However, she was confused to discover that the burger box was completely empty.

A frustrated Mel took to Facebook and revealed that a technical glitch was to blame.

“There was a bug in the Uber Eats app and somehow opted out of every ingredient,” she wrote.

‘Maccas staff must have thought I was cooked and just sent me an empty box’.

The receipt shows that the eight ingredients that make up a Double Big Mac were all opted out, including the meatballs and the bun.

Still, one social media felt she was still dumped by one ingredient.

“Technically there should have been one patty in the box. There are two beef patties and the instructions only remove one,’ they wrote.

In fact, since the customer ordered a Double Big Mac, there still should have been three, since the normal burger has four.

A similar incident happened in March when a customer used a food delivery app to order from a McDonald’s in Maylands in Perth, Yahoo reported.

A pregnant customer opened her breakfast delivery to find nothing but an empty wrapper inside – with an explanatory note attached.

‘Sausage eggs have eggs, muffins, sausage and cheese. It’s a no to everything, so we’ve just given the packaging,’ it said.

The woman’s boyfriend said they had never ordered a Sausage Egg McMuffin.

He said the birth gave him a good laugh and posted a picture of the handwritten note taped to the McDonald’s bag to social media, ‘but hell hath no fury like a pregnant woman’.

In March, another similar incident happened when Uber Eats delivered a McDonald’s order from a store in Sydney’s lower North Shore.

Ten-year-old boys who had slept over after their rugby league match were left disappointed when they also received empty boxes after another apparent mistake.

The customer, Lorraine, said Uber Eats issued an immediate refund but the children were hungry after playing a rugby league match and had only provided ten nuggets and chips to share between them - and some bacon (pictured on the receipt )

The receipt showed that a triple cheeseburger had been ordered, but all items were de-selected, with customers only receiving an empty box.

However, the double cheeseburger, which had bacon added, only came with bacon in the box, as all the other ingredients were also opted out.

Customer Lorraine told TheWSTNews Australia she contacted Uber Eats immediately.

‘The problem was they wanted me to show them a picture of the missing items – but how can you show a picture of something that never arrived?’ she said.

Fortunately, after sending a photo of the receipt, Uber refunded her money.

‘It’s just ridiculous. I understand if there is a problem with the app or even a mistake on our part – but why are the staff packing an empty box – and still charging full price?’

TheWSTNews Australia contacted McDonald’s and Uber Eats for comment.
